Sturdy & HandsomeRobReally solid piece of furniture that is worth the time to assemble properly. Lovely deep blue color is a nice change of pace from all the off-whites, grays and blacks.5
Great desk for being ableThomasGreat desk for being able to sit and stand for work.5
Perfect for working at home!LASet up wasn’t too bad. 1 person (male) 1-2 hours. I put it up and down multiple times a day and no issues ( had for 2 weeks). Accommodates all heights. I am 5’6” and have never reached the full height stop or lowest sitting height. Color and quality is gorgeous. Spacious to fit everything.5
Love my sit or stand extended deskEricaLove this desk in black, this is the extended one, I have two protectors on it. I love it because I could use it with my computer, crafting or, sewing.5
Sewing tableHONOURThis table is fabulous! I’m using it for a sewing and cutting material! It rises and lowers when I need it to!!! My husband helped put it together!5
Too noisyBushraThe mechanism that moves it up and down is super noisy. Sounds like the parts rubbing against each other.2
Love my new tableEllenI am using my Bekant desk/table as a sewing/cutting table. It is so nice to be able to easily adjustable this table with the push of a button, to a sitting or standing position. The table is very sturdy and works well with the other Ikea pieces pieces in my sewing room.5
I don't know why I didn't believe mine would break like the others...Taryn B.RIP Standing Desk. It was great while it lasted! I bought this to make my work from home life more comfortable back in January 2021. After having firmly surpassed the 3- and 6-month failure stories in the other reviews, I was confident that unlike the other reviewers, I hadn't received a lemon. And maybe that's true. Maybe these $500 standing desks are only made to last 18-months or less since they're only warrantied for 6 MONTHS (as told to me by Customer Service). Maybe what happened to my desk is totally normal for IKEA. If so, that's a complete shame, but you've now been warned: Don't buy this desk if you're expecting it to be fully functional beyond 100 raises/lowerings!1
I'm very happy to nowTANYANI'm very happy to now own the Bekant sit/stand desk. It suits my purpose. Assembly was easy and the look is beautiful.5
AmazingVISHWANATHAmazing5
Just get this desk.John M.It's a sturdy and wide desk. It's hard to imagine going back to a traditional desk after buying this. The net beneath the table-top is great for housing cables. I love it. The feet are very wide and strong compared to the other standing desk around.5
Easy assembly and functionality isMariaEasy assembly and functionality is smooth. I purchased desk to help with sciatic pain from sitting at desk 10-12 hrs. I can now change positions without interrupting work flow.4
Great deskILENEWas very easy to put together following the instructions and works great! I’m very pleased with the quality and ease of using it.5
Quality and functionality. And youWilliamQuality and functionality. And you can’t beat the price!5
HELP!! Motor Broke Just Like Others!!karen S.this beautiful desk stopped working less than 2 years after purchase. i tried all trouble-shooting tips in the reviews in which the motor breaks. (THERE ARE MANY!!) PLEASE email me so i, too, can get the necessary replacement. takk!1
The Perfect Sit-Stand Desk to Work-From-HomeAnthonyI found this desk to be very easy to put together, and I've loved working at it for the last few weeks. The desk top has ample area for my two large monitors, my laptop docking station and other work nicknacks. I like that it is deep enough to have my full forearms on the desk surface while I type, rather than just my wrists. The mechanism to raise and lower the desk is very smooth. In short: this desk is perfect.5
Great deskStaciEasy to put together. It runs smooth and quiet. Great for sitting or standing at your desk.5
A good buyAngeliMy son really needed one of these, and this was a great buy. Took some time to assemble, but it works great!5
Great also for smaller peopleBEAPerfect hi-lo desk, quiet motor hidden in the legs of the desk, goes down low enough for short people (not many desks go below 38 inch) and for tall people.5
I love itCarlosI was a bit worried because the one used in store as exhibit was a bit wobbly and didn't look that great, but the one I wanted was not in stock, so I went for this one. I just love it.5

Our take on wood

Wood is the material most commonly associated with IKEA furniture, and for good reasons. It’s renewable, recyclable, durable, ages beautifully and it is an important part of our Scandinavian design heritage. At IKEA, we believe that sourced in responsible way, wood is a key change driver for climate mitigation. In 2012, we set a goal that by 2020 our wood would be from more sustainable sources. We are happy to announce that we have reached this goal and today, more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

To work standing up

Good ideas thrive where the unusual is business as usual. So surprise your body with movement now and then – even if you’re super-concentrated on something for a long time. When you shift position, your blood circulation increases. It makes it easier to relax your back, neck and shoulders. With a height-adjustable desk, it’s easy to vary your work position. It can do wonders for your creativity and focus, and even be a good substitute for that extra cup of coffee.

Make 1+1 become 3

Sometimes we need to work on our own – sometimes we want to work together. Or just socialize. When we collaborate, we can share ideas, become inspired and create an environment where both businesses and people can flourish. To meet our changing needs, we need furniture that are as adaptable as we are. That makes it possible to create the workday we need and want.

Storage that takes you places

Storage with casters is easy to get out of the way when you want to turn the workplace into something else. Perhaps shift focus from one task to another, make room for cleaning or less serious stuff? Office supplies fit perfectly in storage with casters. It makes them easy to bring to the desk, the sofa – or wherever it is you prefer to work.

Two for one

Even if you have all your meetings online or out of the office, it can be a good idea to have an extra seat for colleagues or family members that want to stop by. When you’re on your own, you can use it for relaxation after a session by the screen – perhaps by doing a different type of work-task for a while. If you have little space, there are storage units approved to be used as seating as well.

Storage for people on the go

Storage units developed for standing work are handy if you don’t have a need or the space for a big desk. They can be used as presentation-desks, and if you add casters to them, you can easily move them around and rearrange the room in seconds.

Shared storage and shared spaces

Lack of storage seems to be a universal issue – no matter how disciplined you are or what you do for a living. Large storage units are convenient when you’re sharing storage with someone else. They can also be used as room dividers to create individual workspaces without walls or doors.

Hide or show what you’re storing

If you go for closed storage, it will always look nice and tidy no matter what is hidden inside the cabinets. With glass doors, you get an overview of what’s in the cabinets and can protect your stuff from dust. They also give an opportunity to show visitors things you are extra proud of.

To work sitting down

When you feel like working sitting down, choose a chair that adapts to you, not the other way around. Make sure it gives back support, is adjustable and can swivel – allowing for that all-important movement. You want to be able to sit upright and have your monitor at eye height, and your arms and elbows at a 90-degree angle with your hands just above your keyboard. If you need extra support for your lower back, choose a chair that has lumbar support.

Armrests

A chair without armrests provides freedom for natural movement, but a chair with armrests will support the upper part of your forearms, thereby reducing stress on shoulders and back. Make sure the armrests don’t prevent you from drawing the chair close to the desk.

Chairs with casters

If you want a chair that can roll around and is easy to move, make sure it has safety casters. The safety casters make the chair stay in place when you get up from it.

Active seating

Do yourself a favor, change position now and then instead of sitting or standing all day. A sit/stand support doesn’t have any back-support or armrests. It allows for a flexible work position at both desks and high tables. You get a more open posture – good for your circulation and core muscles, and awesome for both body and mind.

Managing the essentials

Cables. We need them, but we don’t want to see them. They’re easy to trip on, and it can be hard to know which one goes where. A cable management solution helps you to organize and hide the cables. It also makes your workstation look less cluttered and cleaning a whole lot easier. There are a several different cable management systems to choose from, see which one that suits you best.

Digital help that works in real life

There are a number of technological aids that can make your working life easier. With NFC (Near Field Communication) you can lock away your things with a card key instead of a regular key. There are also apps that you can use to control some desks. The apps can remind you to move around now and then, so you get a healthier workday. Or automatically set your favorite height if you share a height-adjustable desk with someone else.

Reduce noise pollution

Your ears should feel just as comfortable at work as your back, neck and shoulders. What someone thinks is calming background sound, can be noise to someone else. With soft-closing doors and drawers you can reduce noise pollution. You can also use fabrics, cushions and rugs to dampen sounds, soften echoes and give the office a homier feeling.

Feel at home at work

Apart from having flexible furniture, there are other things you can do to make magic happen at work. Decorate with plants that improve the air quality. Let daylight in – without causing glare. Make sure there’s access to hot drinks and cold water. But above all, challenge truths, try new things and ask for help if you need it. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable at work.

Forests are critical for life on earth

Forests contribute to maintaining balance in the atmosphere, purify the air that we breathe and are part of the water cycle. They nourish wildlife biodiversity and provide homes for indigenous communities who depend on forests for their livelihoods. 90% of plant and animal species living on the planet need forests to survive. They provide sources of food, fuel, timber and many other ecosystem services that we rely upon. Sourcing approximately 19 million m3 of roundwood per year from some 50 countries, IKEA has a significant impact on the world’s forests and the timber industry and a huge responsibility to positively influence how wood is sourced. Responsible wood sourcing and forest management ensure that the needs of people dependent on forests are met, that businesses can work sustainably, that forest ecosystems are protected and biodiversity is enhanced.

100% wood from more sustainable sources

At IKEA, we work with strict industry standards to promote responsible forestry. We don’t allow any wood in our supply chain from forest areas that are illegal or contain high conservation values or from forest areas with social conflict. Before starting to work with IKEA, suppliers must demonstrate that they meet IKEA critical requirements on wood sourcing. IKEA requires all suppliers to source wood from more sustainable sources (FSC-certified or recycled wood). All suppliers are audited regularly and non-compliant suppliers are required to implement immediate corrective actions. By working together with our suppliers, we are proud to announce that we have reached our more sustainable sources goal, which we set out to achieve by 2020. Today more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030

As pressure on the world’s forests and the surrounding eco-systems increases due to unsustainable agriculture, the expansion of infrastructure and illegal logging, it is time to take an even more holistic approach to protect and support these important resources for generations to come. The IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030 set out to improve forest management, enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change and support the rights and needs of people who depend on forests across the whole supply chain and drive innovation to use wood in even smarter ways. The agenda focuses on three key areas: • Making responsible forest management the norm across the world. • Halting deforestation and reforesting degraded landscapes. • Driving innovation to use wood in smarter ways by designing all products from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, and eventually recycled.

We accomplish more by working together

For many years, IKEA has partnered with businesses, governments, social groups and non-governmental organisations to fight forest degradation and deforestation and increase the volume and availability of wood from responsibly managed forests both for our own supply chain and beyond. We are on a journey to improve global forest management and make responsible wood sourcing the industry standard, contributing to building resilient forest landscapes and improve biodiversity.

Material

What is particleboard?

Particleboard is made from recycled wood and sawmill leftovers – so wood pieces with the wrong shade, woodchips and sawdust become a resource instead of possibly being discarded. We use boards for things like bookcases, bed frames, sofas and kitchen frames. To protect from wear and moisture, we apply varnish, veneer or foil that adds to the furniture's look.
