A fresh take on floral

Floral patterns remain ever relevant in interior design. This time, however, we wanted to explore this timeless theme in a fresh way. With the expressive style of graphic designer Stina Persson, we felt we were on the right path. The result is a coordinated collection where abstract flowers and soft, sweeping lines run like a red thread across the curtains, cushions and bed textiles.

”Stina works with watercolours in a playful, graphic style that brings a fresh and exciting feel,” says Karin Dahlström, design coordinator for our textiles. “We set certain guidelines for her – like the colour palette and which products to include. The collection needed to be coordinated, functional all year round and easily combined with the rest of our living room and bedroom ranges.”

From brushstrokes to textile patterns

Transforming Stina’s watercolour paintings into beautiful textile patterns and interior design products required close collaboration within the textile team. “It was about finding the right scale for the motifs so they fit, for example, on a cushion, and figuring out the repeat – meaning how the pattern should flow continuously across the fabric.” Another important part was calibrating the colours to make sure they came out exactly as planned. “This work, even the digital parts of it, is a kind of craftsmanship. It takes both precision and plenty of experience to get it just right,” Karin explains.

Expressive for the window

Bigger and bolder patterns often end up on cushions and decor items – but here, we chose to feature some of them on SKOGSNÄSSLA and PELARKÖRSBÄR curtains. “When we saw Stina’s magnificent paintings, we really wanted them to stand out,” says Karin, who developed a newfound love for watercolours while working with the collection. “Just imagine a single colour creating so many different tones simply by the way it’s mixed. Watercolouring is so expressive and can really add something unique to the interior.”

Function solution

The fabric dims the daylight

The fabric dims the daylight entering the room when it is brighter outside, and reduces glare. It gives you a comfortable sense of privacy because people cannot see in during the daytime. At night, when the room is lit, it is possible to perceive shapes and silhouettes from outside.
