IKEA KOREA launches IKEA Place, a furniture-placement app with AR technology

IKEA launches new AR application that allows people to virtually place IKEA products
The AR technology applied in IKEA Place is so precise - with 98% accuracy - that you will be able to see the texture of the fabric, as well as how light and shadows are rendered on your furnishings. All of the products in the app are 3D and true to scale. The app automatically scales products according to the size of space that you want to place such as home, office, school and studio. Additionally, the app allows users to capture the setting in the app and share as an image or video with friends and family.
While more than 2,000 IKEA products will be available in the app at launch stage, the products in the first release will focus on larger furniture products for the living room: all sofas, all armchairs, all footstools, all coffee tables and top-selling storage solutions. Some of the most recognized IKEA products are available on IKEA Place, including: the VIMLE sofa, the STRANDMON winged chair and the LISABO side table. In the future, the app will play a key role in the launch of new product lines.
Michael Valdsgaard, Leader Digital Transformation at Inter IKEA Systems said that “IKEA Place makes it easier to make buying decisions in your own place, to get inspired and virtually try many different products, styles and colors in real-life settings with mobile. As AR technology has become important in the rapidly changing life of contemporary people, IKEA Place lets us redefine the experience for home furnishing, in our vision to create a better everyday life for everyone, everywhere,”
IKEA place will be released on October 5 in Korea and be available for free on the Apple App Store.
