IKEA presents MARKERAD collection in collaboration with Virgil Abloh

Aimed at making statement with a first home for Millennials, launching Nov 1 for IKEA Family member
MAKERAD is a limited edition taking everyday icons with classic minimalistic designs and building on them with artistic references. Created in collaboration between home furnishing leader IKEA and multi-disciplinary creative Virgil Abloh, the collection aims to satisfy the practical needs of young people today, adding a sense of irony and injecting humour into the home. The final collection is a mix of 15 articles that are basic needs when creating a first home – a table, chair, daybed, cabinet and rugs.
“This collaboration has been characterised by a curiosity for each other’s ‘playfield’ and a genuine willingness to try out new paths. By joining together our approaches to design, we challenged each other to think differently and created a collection that I think is bold, contemporary and carries messages of our time,” said Henrik Most, Creative Leader at IKEA of Sweden.
MARKERAD will launch on November 1 for IKEA Family members at IKEA Gwangmyeong and Goyang and will be available for all customers from November 2 in store and on e-commerce while supplies last. IKEA Family is the IKEA loyalty program that is open to anyone with a passion for home furnishing. Members can sign up free of charge via in-store kiosks and the IKEA Family website to enjoy immediate benefits, such as special offers and home furnishing workshops.
IKEA Korea will also host a special social media event to celebrate the launch of MARKERAD, which will run until October 30. Anyone is welcome to participate by following the IKEA Korea Instagram account (@ikeakr) and re-gramming the MARKERAD post with the given hashtags. Winners will be announced on October 31 via Instagram story, who will each receive a MARKERAD carrier bag. More details on MARKERAD can be found at IKEA Korea website (www.ikea.kr).
