Ingka Group releases FY19 Annual Summary & Sustainability Report
Ingka Group is contributing to create a new IKEA - transforming and performing in a new world of retail - all to become more affordable, accessible and sustainable. Halfway through the transformation, strong movements are seen in digital developments, store transformations, city expansion, services and sustainability initiatives.
The report also highlights the sustainability initiatives from across Ingka Group in its progress towards becoming People & Planet Positive. To create a more sustainable and meaningful impact on the planet by 2030, Ingka Group is making continuous efforts to fulfill the three focus areas of 1) Inspiring and enabling healthy and sustainable living, 2) Transforming IKEA into a circular and climate positive business and 3) Being fair and inclusive.
Key highlights from this year’s report include:
• 374 IKEA stores in 30 countries (Opened 7 new IKEA stores), 839 million store visits
• EUR 36.7 billion in IKEA Retail sales, increase of 5.0% from last year
• E-commerce sales grew by 46%, amounting to 11% of total IKEA Retail sales
• Opened 11 smaller stores and IKEA planning studios in growing cities like London, Moscow, New York and Paris
• Invested in 534 wind turbines and two solar farms in 14 countries; have 920,000 solar modules on the roofs of IKEA stores and warehouses, achieving its aim to become energy independent, producing as much renewable energy as it consumes in its operations
• Launched IKEA Home Solar in 7 countries, number of customers grew by 29% with each customer saving on average EUR 400 per year on their energy bill
• Successfully contributed to circularity by giving 47 million recovered products a second life by reselling them through the As-Is shop, or having them repacked and sold
• Going all in for equality, achieved 50-50 gender balance in management positions
• Creating great co-worker experience for 166,200 co-workers; 81% believe Ingka Group is a great place to work

IKEA Korea, owned and operated by Ingka Group, also aims to offer a more convenient and accessible IKEA experience for more of the many people in Korea with the upcoming opening of IKEA DongBusan on February 13 and its first city touchpoint opening in the first half of 2020. IKEA Korea is also continuing its efforts towards becoming a good neighbour for the local community through various efforts including the “Mom-Up Project” established in partnership with Korea Foundation for Women (KFW) in support of unwed single moms, and Save the Children’s ‘Keep the Playground’ project supporting children’s right to play.
