IKEA Canada supporting Canadians experiencing food insecurity

Thanks to the tireless efforts of our many co-workers, we’ve been able to donate approximately $345,000 in IKEA food (yes, that includes meatballs) across the country.

IKEA Canada has been able to support more than 100 local food banks and hospitals with the help of organizations like Second Harvest, Moisson Québec and Feed Nova Scotia that are dedicated to improving food access for all Canadians. We have committed to donate approximately $2.3M to support our local communities affected by the pandemic across Canada and will continue to do our part to create a stronger tomorrow, #togetherwithkindness.

IKEA Edmonton helps First Nations and newcomer communities

Over the last couple of months, Our team at IKEA Edmonton has been hard at working supporting its local community and has been able to donate:

  • Over 350 home furnishing kits and 1,500 home organization boxes to the Edmonton Mennonite Newcomer Centre
  • Thousands of IKEA items including bedding, pillows, stools, soap dispensers and more to the Maskwacis Health Centre as they work to establish quarantine treatment centres
  • Slippers for women and children sheltering from domestic abuse at the WIN House Shelter

These donations are part of IKEA Canada’s commitment to provide approximately $2.3M of in-product donations to support communities coast-to-coast during the pandemic.

IKEA Ottawa supports community breakfast program

Our IKEA Ottawa store is working hard to be a strong community partner and support some of our most vulnerable communities impacted by COVID-19 including children, refugees and newcomers. In May, our team was able to donate 600 children’s dishware kits to neighbouring community housing through the Ottawa Network for Education’s School Breakfast Program Replacement Kits. These kits are distributed to the most vulnerable students in the Ottawa community to ensure they can continue to learn and grow.

IKEA Ottawa is also proud to have partnered with Catholic Centre for Immigrants and Ottawa Community Immigrant Services Organization to donate 270 home furnishing kits to help support newcomers and refugee clients to ensure their safety and comfort during these challenging times.

IKEA Montreal steps up to support local vulnerable communities affected by COVID-19

  • Food from our Swedish Food Market and arts and crafts supplies for children of families in need in our local store neighbourhood
  • Over 100 home kits filled with essentials for refugees and newcomers
  • Kitchen supplies, linens, storage solutions and more to Projets autochtones du Québec, an organization offering social services to First Nations, Inuit and Metis people experiencing homelessness.

IKEA Richmond donates 715 sets of bedding

From coast-to-coast, IKEA Canada has been supporting some of our most vulnerable communities affected by COVID-19 including many hospitals and healthcare centres. At IKEA Richmond, we’ve been working hard to ensure our frontline healthcare workers and patients are comfortable during this difficult time. Our team helped Richmond Hospital transform its cafeteria into a much-needed rest area for healthcare workers by donating home furnishings like room dividers, mirrors and storage boxes, plants and more.

Our team has also proudly donated 100 sets of bedding to the BC Women’s Health Foundation and 715 sets of bedding to the BC Society of Transition Housing to women and children in need.

IKEA Canada donates more than 200,000 N95 masks from coast-to-coast

At IKEA Canada, we’re committed to supporting the communities we serve and we’re working hard to provide relief to Canadians impacted by COVID-19. As part of this commitment, we’re proud to play a role in supporting our frontline healthcare workers who continue to work tirelessly for our health and wellbeing during this challenging time. IKEA Canada stores and distribution units have donated more than 200,000 N95 masks to local hospitals and healthcare centres across the country.

At IKEA Vaughan, IKEA co-workers teamed up with THE PPE Drive, a non-profit helping to collect urgently needed PPE for Ontario hospitals, and were able to donate over 66,000 N95 face masks to the North York General Hospital. Additionally, IKEA’s Brossard Distribution Centre was able to donate 56,000 to several nearby facilities and Alberta Health Services received nearly 88,000 from nearby IKEA Edmonton and IKEA Calgary stores.

With the rapid scaling of medical facilities in the wake of COVID-19, IKEA Canada will continue to donate urgently needed supplies from its range such as mattresses, bedding, mirrors, children’s toys and food.

IKEA Winnipeg helps create safe spaces for those experiencing homelessness

As part of IKEA Canada’s commitment to support local communities impacted by COVID-19, we are focusing our relief efforts on our most vulnerable communities. In April, our IKEA Winnipeg store donated approximately $20K worth of needed home furnishings including beds, chairs and accessories to 53 isolation suites as part of a project by the Salvation Army and Main Street Project. These suites are designed for those experiencing homelessness and have tested positive for COVID-19 or have been exposed and need a safe space to isolate. By providing home furnishings to some of our most vulnerable and at-risk communities, we ensure that not only are their basic necessities met, but also that their current living space is a place of comfort and safety when they need it most.
