What’s happening at IKEA Richmond?

IKEA is building a new Customer Distribution Centre connected to the store (the store is still operating as normal).​​

The new Customer Distribution Centre will service millions of British Columbians and the construction process will create local jobs in Richmond.

How long will the construction take?

The new Customer Distribution Centre is scheduled to open in 2027. Throughout the project, there will be different types of construction work being done at the site. From now until Spring 2026, piling will be conducted at the site. IKEA is committed to keeping co-workers, customers and the community informed including sharing our construction work schedule.​

When will the construction take place?

In the city of Richmond, BC, construction noise is permitted from: Current work schedule Exceptions
Monday - Fridays, 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday - Fridays, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.*Please note, there is no work scheduled for Tuesday, November 11
Saturdays, 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.Saturdays, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Sundays and all statutory holidays, construction noise is prohibitedSundays, no work scheduled

Will there be any impact to the neighbourhood because of the construction?

​IKEA will do its best to keep any disruptions, such as truck traffic or noise, to a minimum and keep co-workers, customers, and the community informed throughout the project. We are committed to following city bylaws and sharing back information with the community. We are working with the City of Richmond to ensure that we align with rules and standards. IKEA is also using mitigations such as noise dampening blankets and a staggered piling schedule to ensure that any noise levels are lower.
