NOT airtight - useless for food storageBritI've never been so disappointed by an ikea purchase in my entire life ... this should retail for $2, not $10. Despite having a gasket, the top does NOT fit onto the jar, and it certainly doesn't seal. It merely sits on top. It is completely useless. I would not recommend this to anyone, and I will be returning. It is garbage.1
Pantry reorganizationKristiThis atractive container sits in my reorganized pantry and is large enough to hold fair amounts of dry goods like pasta, lentils, rolled oats and so on. With 5 people in our family, the pantry gets a lot of use and can become a disaster quickly! Tidies the space right up and looks nice too.5
Great Buy!DoreenCame across this on sale for $5! I haven’t decided if I’m filling with chocolates or cookies. Nice heavy jar.5

Tall glass storage jarTinaI bought three Of these beautiful jars and intend to get another one! I am filling them with lindt chocolates as Christmas gifts4
Air tight? Not unless you think a screen door is air tight.TravisBesides the size and shape, I bought this specifically for its air tight seal. There's nothing remotely sealed about it. Its a great size/fit for our counter, but was taken aback by the ease of the lid falling off. The lid is as useless as the "g" in lasagna.1

Love this jar!JackieGreat price land it looks lovely on my counter. Great for displaying cookies, candies, granola etc.5
Lid does not seal the jarPhaedraI was disappointed to find that once the plastic wrap came off the neck of this jar, the lid slides right off. The lid has almost no depth to the inner lip and so the canister is not only not air tight but the lid barely closes the jar. Not suited for the food storage I bought it for and now I can’t return it without the wrapper on the lid….3
AwfulAnitaBecause the lids had plastic around them to hold in place .. you would not be able to check how they worked .. normally those type have a nice suction..to keep things fresh ., well not these the two I bought just basically lay on top .. I don’t live close enough to send them back .. we were on holidays in Vancouver and bought them .. anyhow if you want something to stay fresh don’t buy these .. and if it tipped over the lid would fall off and everything would fall out .,1
good to store cookiesTaslemagood to store cookies5
Super cuteChrisLove this cookie jar. The lid isn’t heavy, nor is it hard to remove. It works perfectly, and is a little fragile, but that’s totally fine with me.5

Designing for the tastes of people around the world

Do you sometimes cook dishes from other cultures? Then you’re part of an international trend called transculturalism. It basically means that global cooking and eating habits are a lot more similar than you may think. How can we cater for this trend? We designed the VARDAGEN series with products that can be used in multiple ways. In Swedish, VARDAGEN means “every day”, which is just how the products are meant to be used, no matter where you live.

“Consumers have access to cultural diversity in cooking and eating from all over the world,” explains Ina Tidbeck Sjöblom, who helped create the products. “They want to taste the best of all cultures, which means that it’s not only in Asia that we need eating products for sushi.”

Creating products for all our differences (and similarities)

The VARDAGEN products are designed to turn differences into similarities. Like the eggcup. “We did it in a shape that it’s more like a very small dip bowl,” explains Ina. “So it’s also for Asian eating, you know the bowl where you put chili paste and other condiments.” Another bowl has just the right size and shape to be a rice bowl in Asia, but it can also be used as a side-salad or cereal bowl.

Answering the global demand for durability

VARDAGEN is uniquely suited to the global market—catering to the different needs of eaters. One thing people all over the world seem to agree on is the importance of durability. “We know from all the studies and research we do that people don’t want to buy and throw away things, they want to buy something that lasts,” says Ina. That’s why VARDAGEN is made from durable and sustainable materials, like glass, porcelain and stainless steel. That means, just like the name VARDAGEN suggests, they’ll be useful every day for many days to come.

Material

What is glass?

Glass is mainly made of sand, soda and lime melted at a high temperature. Tempering or various additives gives you extra-strong and impact-resistant glass that in some cases can be taken straight from freezer to oven without cracking. A big benefit is how glass can be recycled over and over without the quality deteriorating. Also, a lot less energy is needed to melt recycled glass compared to new raw materials. Our goal is to eventually use only recycled glass in our range.
