Malin and her colleagues dug deep into coffee and tea cultures to find out what tools people feel they can’t live without. They talked to specialists and investigated living, eating and drinking habits. “We wanted to develop items that make a difference, so we’ve focused on a few, but carefully selected products,” she states. The team cooperated with IKEA Test Lab in Älmhult, Sweden. It’s an IKEA version of a James Bond lab where prototypes are inspected and evaluated. “A couple of the things we checked were that the thermoses can keep fluids really warm for a long time. And that the glass mugs and glass pots are durable and comfortable, even though they look and feel light and airy,” says Malin.

Awesome little teapotTedReally pleased by this little pot. I have been using one of the tea balls from IKEA but swiftly discovered it didn't hold up long. I went back to get some more until I spotted this little guy. It's perfect to hold a couple of mugs worth of tea. I only have one complaint, the instructions didn't say how to open the cover to the strainer, it wasn't until after l forced it open that I found out how to fo it properly. Just like a medicine bottle, push down, then turn.

Poor design for built in strainerLotusI purchased this for my housemate to make tea and because the strainer reaches about an inch from the bottom you have to make a fairly full pot of tea. If you fill the strainer with tea leaves but just want to make a cup or thermos of tea this isn’t really suitable.

Our favourite teapotHeatherClear teapot makes it easy to determine the strength of the tea. No more pouring weak tea back in the pot! The teapot is easier to break than the traditional Brown Betty teapots so beware. I just wish IKEA would sell replacement filter baskets. Even with bleaching, the baskets get grotty looking after a year or two.
Changes to the StrainerJaniceI repurchased this product because I accidentally broke my mine while washing the dishes. They changed the strainer which used to be completely metal or stainless steel? Now the top part or the strainer is plastic which I'm not a fan of. This component seems like it got replaced with a cheaper design.
