Great starter bed.
The extra lip on the side is surprisingly useful — perfect for placing a water cup or keeping your phone while it charges.
Very sturdy if you add a 6x4 wooden block underneath the center metal beam for proper support (I feel like this is a must must!).
Easy to vacuum underneath thanks to the clearance.
Cons
Pretty much everyone has this design, so it’s not the most unique look.
Neutral / Additional Notes
This is my second MALM. My first one lasted over 10 years and is still solid at my parents’ house. The only difference is that the first one used a custom two-piece plywood base instead of the standard IKEA slats, which made it feel even more solid.
Simple & SleekLyneEasy to assemble (my 16 yr old did it by himself). His room is somewhat smaller so was worried the frame would be overwhelming but it looks great and room for storage bins underneath.
So creaky squeaky YenThe bed looks nice but it’s so squeaky it’s driving me insane. I woke up at 4am looking up how to fix the squeaky problem. I move gently and it still squeaks.
Don't expect this frame to last. Huge disappointment!!GraemeOriginally purchased the Malm bedframe back in 2020. This bedframe is still going strong with no issues with over 5 years of use. Purchased a larger size and was exactly what we had hoped for until it decided that, in the middle of the night, it wanted to collapse out from underneath us. Just over 2 years of use out of the bedframe with a foam mattress (not exceptionally heavy) and it has broken on us. Quality on this product is not the same as it used to be. Extremely dissatisfied.

Extremely disappointed with service and order mistakeAmaniFirst, I paid extra for delivery to receive my order between 13:00 and 17:00. Instead, my items arrived at 19:30! I had reserved the elevator and the loading area closes at 20:00, so I was stuck waiting for hours, wasting valuable time that I could have spent on other important things.
Second, after hours of hard work assembling the bed, I discovered that instead of the queen bed I ordered, I was sent a double. This mistake was caused by the employee entering the wrong order. As a result, I wasted my entire day building something I did not even want.
I understand that I can return items, but what about all the time I lost? I strongly request that IKEA send a team to remove the wrong bed and properly assemble the correct one. Customers should not be forced to waste their lives fixing the company’s errors.
This has been a very frustrating experience, and I expect IKEA to take responsibility for both the incorrect order and the inconvenience caused.
Good bed. Terrible slats/support.JulietI destroyed a mattress, and many years of sleep trying to make the nightmare slats work. Can't tell you how many times they fell apart and had to be replaced, or how often the support beam collapsed. Finally bought a box spring. Wish I'd done that from the beginning.
Great Buy!CarolActually this is the second one we have purchased because we loved the first one & our daughter insisted on taking it with her when she moved out so we had to replace it. It was easy to set up & is very sturdy.
Poor Quality ChiragThe quality of this frame has gone down. I previously purchased one in 2019 and it was great. I repurchased when I moved in 2023 and this one just kept creaking. It creaks so bad that I wake up each time I move.

We were informed that we needed to buy the slats and the mattress as extra pieces which we did when we got home and got the entire bed. Assembled, there was no middle support beam for this bed. I had to call customer service to which he explained that I need to order this piece as well. I ordered it online and paid.Double the amount of what it was worth because I also had to pay for shipping.

Buy your own slatsCarolinaBought this bedframe without the slats because a friend liked the bed but mentioned that the slats broke due to a second person’s added body weight. We purchased our own wood to make slats and the end result is exactly what we wanted. Simple, light bedframe.
