Brilliant For Car TripsRebeccaThis was exactly what we were looking for to give to a family that died long road trips. The only downside is there is only one colour option. We ended up using iron on vinyl and my Cricut to customize the size.5

Very useful for adults as well. I think it would be helpful. to display this Mala case in the Ikea office section, where the desks are, and have these available in the grab & go bin next to it.DonnaI was having lunch at Ikea, and the person at the table next to me had his laptop on. I also noticed a convenient case open, with organized paper work, pens, highlighters, pencils, refillable lead, eraser, etc. And then seeing a surface to write on (the outer case), is what got me realizing that I need this for myself. So I asked the person where he got this organized & helpful case, and I was in (pleasant) shock when he said, "over there", and pointed towards the Ikea children's section nearby. I had no idea that the case he was professionally using, was from Ikea, and that it's located in the Children's department. I immediately bought a Mala case for myself. When I'm doing paperwork, documentation, etc., other adults were asking me the same thing--where I got it, so they could use one too. When I told them it's in the children's department (of Ikea), they were surprised as well, and we were laughing a bit. The size is just right, and it protects your paperwork.5

For all creative little explorers

Drawings all over the kitchen table and coloured felt pens without caps. Does it sound familiar? This is definitely part of living with children, and actually something to be happy about. Painting, drawing, and crafting are in fact not just fun, but important work, and a way for your child to develop. When we created the MÅLA series, we wanted to take children’s creation very seriously and listened to the true experts: the children themselves.

We always start with the child’s perspective to understand what they really need. In this project, we found facts and inspiration in pedagogy focusing on creativity. “We realized that creativity isn’t just any play for children, they’re little researchers who use creation to understand the world around them,” says Ina Tidbeck Sjöblom who was part of creating the MÅLA series.

Made for busy artists

The team interviewed groups of children who got to try out prototypes and provide their points of view. What were their favourite colours? What did they think of the paper? “The children had very strong and sensible opinions. We also realized how they use drawing and painting gear. For example, if you’re four years old and in the middle of making a drawing, you don’t always think of putting the cap back on the felt pen. So, these pens will last up to three days without caps.” To ensure high quality at the right price, the development work was allowed to take extra time. “What children do and how they do it is super important. That’s why we considered all their feedback and made sure the products met their needs.”

Easy to get started

The MÅLA series has been around for a long time, but it keeps growing and evolving as we see new needs and get new ideas. All parts should be easy to grab and use whenever inspiration strikes. “The child shouldn’t need a parent nearby to start drawing or painting. Being able to do things on your own is an important part of development. You grow with the task.”
