The team interviewed groups of children who got to try out prototypes and provide their points of view. What were their favourite colours? What did they think of the paper? “The children had very strong and sensible opinions. We also realized how they use drawing and painting gear. For example, if you’re four years old and in the middle of making a drawing, you don’t always think of putting the cap back on the felt pen. So, these pens will last up to three days without caps.” To ensure high quality at the right price, the development work was allowed to take extra time. “What children do and how they do it is super important. That’s why we considered all their feedback and made sure the products met their needs.”

Comes with 8 bottles in different colors. A mixing tray, a brush and color chart are included so your child can blend paints and make their own exciting colors.
The paint is ready to use, but you can also dilute it with water for a lighter effect.

Great colours, good priceGailMy go-to paints for my 4 yr old. Purchased several times. No issue with odour. Washes off from surfaces easily. Also fairly easy to squeeze out (4yr old can squeeze easily on her own). Love how it comes with the palette to hold the paint and nice quality brush. I use the ikea smock over her clothes which usually does the trick at saving them.

The container lids are very secure, so if you wouldn't want toddlers to get paint by themselves, they would have a hard time opening this. On the other hand, I would like my 3yr old to have access to her paints on her own but she can't open it herself. For now I help her open the container and she does the squeezing.

For all creative little explorers
Drawings all over the kitchen table and coloured felt pens without caps. Does it sound familiar? This is definitely part of living with children, and actually something to be happy about. Painting, drawing, and crafting are in fact not just fun, but important work, and a way for your child to develop. When we created the MÅLA series, we wanted to take children’s creation very seriously and listened to the true experts: the children themselves.
We always start with the child’s perspective to understand what they really need. In this project, we found facts and inspiration in pedagogy focusing on creativity. “We realized that creativity isn’t just any play for children, they’re little researchers who use creation to understand the world around them,” says Ina Tidbeck Sjöblom who was part of creating the MÅLA series.

PE, or polyethylene, is a versatile plastic with many uses. It can be soft and flexible as well as tough and strong. At IKEA we use PE for things like plastic bags, freezer bags, ice packs and chopping boards. A big reason why we like this plastic is that it can be made from renewable raw materials like corn and sugar cane.
