Ratings and reviews

Good for toddlerNancyVery good and fun for toddlers. Quality of white board and black board could however be better... it is not "real" white/black board material. Hence it can get hard to wipe the surfaces clean. Still a great toddler tool to have.4

EaselSejutiHighly recommend it. Today I spent almost 1.5 hrs on it with my toddler drawing faces with expressions, numbers and alphabet. We quizzed each other and in general had so much fun and she didnt even wanted a screen time.5
I like how big theKRISTINAI like how big the drawing areas are. The only bad thing about it are the plastic shelves are small so you can't store much in them and they aren't very strong.3
Great thing to keep kids entertainedIoanaAnd we grown ups like to leave funny notes on it as well.5
Great item for price!!RachelBought for my 19 month old. She uses it everyday and was easy to put together and for 34$ it’s amazing. It’s fairly big. Good quality.5

As described. Perfect height. Don’tSHIRLEYAs described. Perfect height. Don’t forget to buy the paper and season the blackboard side before using.5
Great drawing board for kidsSanaMy toddler loves this. I think the roll component is really useful because he never gets tired of drawing! My only con would be a personal preference: I wish there was no red accent and it was more neutral overall!4

Had to dig up a screw driver - no regretsKateFor the price it is a great piece. It was a little longer to put together than expected, and required a screw driver instead of an included allen key. Kids immediately knocked it over and broke plastic red sidebars, but easily repaired with pieces of string.4

For artists in all sizes

After more than 20 years in the range, the MÅLA easel is a real hero that millions of children have loved. But nothing is so good that it can’t be improved. So, we rolled up our sleeves and tweaked several important details. After that, we asked some parents what they thought of the prototype. Their input helped us make the easel even smarter.

“Through the years, we’ve got some comments on the easel. For example, that the paper roll was difficult to roll up, and that it was complicated to fold up and store away the easel,” tells Jorge Omar Santoyo Henaine, who works with product development at Children’s IKEA.

Good can get better

Together with the supplier and designers, we didn’t only manage to correct the problems; we also lowered the price and extended the drawing surface down to the floor. “It makes it possible for the smaller children to reach a larger surface, and older children can sit down on the floor when they draw and paint.” But was the easel good enough now, or could it get even better? “To find out, we invited parents in a store to test and comment. This way, we could ask questions and listen to their reflections.”

Easier to paint – and clean up

Parents appreciated that the tray for pens, brushes and paint is made of easy to maintain plastic instead of wood. But they thought it should be on both sides so two children can draw and paint at the same time. And one parent said: “My child spills and makes a mess, I want to be able to rinse the tray in the sink.” “It convinced us that it’s better if you can remove the trays. We want to make life simpler and more creative for both the children and their parents, and to succeed it’s crucial to involve them like we did that day in the store.”

Quality

Creative geniuses come in small sizes!

Paint! Draw! Shape! The MÅLA series has everything a child needs to unleash their imagination and creativity – and store drawings. There’s an easel, colourful modelling dough, grip-friendly brushes and scissors that suit tiny hands and paints that are easy to mix and wash off. No nagging your child to put caps back on the felt-tip pens – they survive 3 days without caps. And everything’s non-toxic. Since we care just as much about the next generation’s creative minds as you.
