Best BitAndrewThis the best purchase from IKEA yet Stylish, study. Put two together to make one big one5
Nice look but poorly designed hinge/door mechanismUrban Home Country HeartThis bookcase looks nice, and we like it. The installation of the back and the shelves of the bookcase is OK. But the installation of the doors to this bookcase, especially the centre alignment of the doors, is extremely difficult. The doors keeps being crooked and banging onto the edges or tilting back to close when we open them. My husband is a well-trusted engineer and has excellent mechanical perception. He installs all our furniture at home, big and small. But he had to spend several hours trying and retrying to adjust and align the two doors -- taking the doors off, redoing the adjustments, and putting the doors back on. The adjustment mechanism and the hinges for the door are just poorly designed. My husband read through this web search that a new version of this bookcase has been released, and it offers a better-designed hinge to allow for much easier alignment and installation. But it looks like we received with an old version of the product from IKEA. We are quite disappointed that somehow IKEA still shipped out an older version of the product to customers after releasing a newer version, so that some customers are stuck with a poorly designed product and have to struggle through the installation and waste much more time on it.2
bookcases0057pbWe already had three of these cabinets and decided to purchase two more recently as we were happy with the ones we had. One of the new cabinets had a cam lock that didn't line up properly. We broke one cam lock on it but finally were able to get one to work but it isn't tightened properly. One of the cabinet doors has a big chip on the back of it. We feel that the quality of the product has declined since our earlier purchase.3
door insatllationgcptLove the appearance but definitely a two person task. Very difficult to line up three hinges with the plates on the cabinet. Any advice is appreciated. TIA4
Fabulous and sturdy!Liz12345rweWe loved this. Bought two for our living room, and for the price, cannot beat it. As with most IKEA stuff, very straight forward to set up. It survived a move across Canada, very sturdy. Very impressed and have now bought a TV stand in this line.5
Very nice bookcaseJax1948It looks very nice, easy to put together - mostly, but the instructions are weird. They want you to bolt it to the wall first, then finish the top. You can't see what you're doing at that point and cannot finish putting the top together because you can't see or reach. We had to disregard those instructions, finish the top, then bolt it to the wall as the last step. I don't know how they figure you can do it otherwise. I also think it's too expensive for what it is. I had a coupon so got it for $250 instead of $400, I would not buy it at the $400 price point and think the $250 is still a bit too high.4
Great BookcaseChocolateCookieMonsterLove the look of this bookcase, adjustable shelving, great storage!5
good for storageMrsfixitTop great for display , bottom for storage4
Love ithomebody29This looks great and is very functional. It went together easily and perfectly. I assembled it on my own without help. The shelves have limited positioning but otherwise no complaints. Adding this cabinet It created a lot more storage space in my kitchen, with some place to add decorative items as well.4
Beautiful cabinetNicole2365This is a beautiful cabinet. Definitely a two-person job to assemble. Disappointed with the paint finish on the backboard as it chips and rubs off easily. I searched online to see if there was a touch up pen available - there is, but shipping to Canada is not available.4

Our take on wood

Wood is the material most associated with IKEA furniture, and for good reasons. It is renewable, recyclable, durable, ages beautifully and it is an important part of our Scandinavian design heritage. At IKEA we believe that sourced in responsible way, wood is a key change driver for climate mitigation. In 2012, we set a goal that by 2020 our wood would be from more sustainable sources. We are happy to announce that we have reached this goal and today, more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

Forests are critical for life on earth

Forests contribute to maintaining balance in the atmosphere, purifying the air that we breathe and are part of the water cycle. They nourish wildlife biodiversity and provide homes for indigenous communities who depend on forests for their livelihoods. 90% of plant and animal species living on the planet need forests to survive. They provide sources of food, fuel, timber, and many other ecosystem services that we rely upon. Sourcing approximately 19 million m3 of roundwood per year from some 50 countries, IKEA has a significant impact on the world’s forests and the timber industry and a huge responsibility to positively influence how wood is sourced. Responsible wood sourcing and forest management ensure that the needs of people dependent on forests are met, that businesses can work sustainably, that forest ecosystems are protected, and biodiversity is enhanced.

100% wood from more sustainable sources

At IKEA, we work with high industry standards for promoting responsible forestry. We do not allow any wood in our supply chain from forest areas that are illegal or contain high conservation values or from forest areas with social conflict. Before starting to work with IKEA, suppliers must demonstrate that they meet IKEA critical requirements on wood sourcing. IKEA requires all suppliers to source wood from more sustainable sources (FSC-certified or recycled wood). All suppliers are audited regularly, and non-compliant suppliers are required to implement immediate corrective actions. By working together with our suppliers, we are proud to announce that we have reached our more sustainable sources goal, which we set out to achieve by 2020. Today more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030

As pressure on the world’s forests and the surrounding eco-systems increases due to unsustainable agriculture, the expansion of infrastructure and illegal logging, it is time to take an even more holistic approach to protect and support these important resources for generations to come. The IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030 set out to improve forest management, enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change, and support the rights and needs of people who depend on forests across the whole supply chain and drive innovation to use wood in even smarter ways. The agenda focuses on three key areas: • Making responsible forest management the norm across the world. • Halting deforestation and reforesting degraded landscapes. • Driving innovation to use wood in smarter ways by designing all products from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, and eventually recycled.

We accomplish more by working together

For many years, IKEA has partnered with businesses, governments, social groups and non-governmental organisations to fight forest degradation and deforestation and increase the volume and availability of wood from responsibly managed forests both for our own supply chain and beyond. We are on a journey to improve global forest management and make responsible wood sourcing the industry standard, contributing to building resilient forest landscapes and improve biodiversity.

Material

What is particleboard?

Particleboard is made from recycled wood and sawmill waste – so wood pieces with the wrong shade, woodchips and sawdust become a valuable resource instead of being discarded. We use boards for things like bookcases, bed frames, sofas and kitchen frames. To protect from wear and moisture, we apply varnish, veneer or foil that adds to the furniture's look. The day your sofa or bed needs replacing, the material in the particleboard can be recycled into something entirely new.
