Great storage unitGoldieI was a little disappointed that the surface wasn't the smooth shiny gloss that was in the 4x4 unit that I had purchased a couple years ago. Instead it felt like any other cheap wooden unit from any other store. It was purchased online and unseen in person. I may not have purchased it if I had known the surface wasn't the same as they were for the same room. One is nice and shiny, the new one is just nice.

I get that it is IKEA quality and price, but I still should be able to build it the way IKEA intended without resorting to power tools.

Great for storing board gamesMattI have a ton of games - board games, miniatures games, and role playing games. These shelves are amazing for storing them all. Plus you can customize the shelves with various inserts. Great stuff! I will pour one out for the trees who died to bring me these shelves.
KallaxChrisFor the most part we are pleased with our purchase. We had delivered to a collection centre. Noticed foot prints on one of the boxes. Some minor damage to a side panel fortunately it was not very noticeable and easy to hide.
Quality has gone downMgI'm disappointed : ( I've been saving up for one of these for a long time and I was so excited to get one finally, but during the assembly, I noticed how cheap everything felt. We had one of these when I was a kid and the components were much more solid, the shelves felt sturdy and even the wooden pegs used to be twice as thick but now they're very long and skinny and the shelves are so light and thin. I was flipping one over and I could hear the particles inside moving around. We were careful when setting everything up, aware of how brittle it all felt, but one of these pegs still snapped, and there was only ONE spare part (for 64 pieces). I've built and taken apart and rebuilt older IKEA furniture several times without a single peg ever breaking. Now it's all put together, but it wobbles like mad, and I feel like it won't support much weight. Even the connection between shelves/sides aren't great, there's a few places where they don't align perfectly and leave small gaps.
