The frying pan does not have a non-stick coating. For best frying result, first put the pan on high heat and then lower the temperature by half when you cook the food.

Excellent alternative to expensive alternativesGeorginaI knew nothing about carbon steel but found myself shopping for a new frying pan, and after reading reviews on ikeas website and around the internet, I decided to try it— if I hate it, I can return it! It’s brilliant though. It takes some work, as many reviews suggest, your initial seasoning stage matters, and it takes months to build up a lasting coating, but it really is great. Read up and watch some videos online before you start with your pan, the ikea instructions are okay but basic. If you ever lose or damage the coating, you just start again and reason it, but this pan will last my lifetime. The cons are it’s annoyingly heavy, I wish that the handle was a better, comfier shape as it doesn’t suit my hand at all, and a second handle wouldn’t hurt either. For the first few months, acids like tomatoes and soy stir-fries are detrimental to the thin coating, so stick to slick foods like meats, oily fish, and frying to add layers to the coating. Now wish there were more sizes!4
