You can just shake off water from a light rain, as the cushion cover is water repellent.
The cushion covers are dope dyed, a process that reduces consumption of water and dyestuff while improving color fastness compared to traditional dyeing techniques.
The cushion has a longer life because it can be turned over and used on both sides.

Good sofa for a covered spaceNataliaWe purchased this sofa a few years ago when it first came out. I was worried about how the white cushions would hold up outdoor but they have washed well and we haven’t had any issues with the inner cushions deteriorating. We bring the sofa in during the winter months, it’s only out in the summer. I’m only just now noticing some discolouration of the covers and came to see if IKEA sells replacements. Disappointed to find that we have to replace both cover and inner cushion but have to say that our set has done us well with light use over the last few years.
This has been the WORST purchase I have ever made from IKEA.FarnooshThe HAVSTEN outdoor sofa may look nice at first, but do not be fooled. After using it, the inside of the cushions started to completely fall apart and break down. Whatever is inside them has basically given up, and now the sofa is extremely uncomfortable.
When you sit down, you don’t sit on the sofa. You sink into it. Getting back up feels like trying to escape a collapsed air mattress. It is uncomfortable, frustrating, and honestly shocking for something that is supposed to be a relaxing outdoor sofa.
For the price, I expected way better quality. The cushions should not be falling apart like this. I would not recommend the HAVSTEN sofa at all unless you enjoy being trapped in your own patio furniture.

Fun outdoor couchRonaldWe are using it a lot and we are enjoying it. It’s super comfortable if one pulls the backrest cushions forward at the bottom so they have the right angle. And the fabric is scratchy and is better with a throw blanket on it. It seems overpriced.
Foam pillow disintegratedAnonymous reviewerHad the same thing happen as another reviewer…the thin fabric that covers the stuffing disintegrated when I tried to take them out to wash the covers. The foam exploded everywhere and the pillows were destroyed. Covers were still in good condition though…it’s too bad because I really love this sofa! (Replacement pillows would cost over $300 but I only need the filling)
Modern loveseat KyraWe’ve owned this for 2 years now and it looks the same as when we purchased it. White cushions are still white and plush. Very comfortable and looks great.
