Very disappointingTennielleI purchased this Alex desk last Saturday, May 30/ 2026. When I started assembling it, I noticed it was missing two of the bottom pieces for the inside drawers. Also, while trying to put the desk together, I found the instructions unclear. I’ve purchased many items from IKEA in the past, and this was the first time any pieces were missing. I know I’ll be happy with the desk once everything is put together and I get the drawer pieces.
Alex is an attractive and compact console deskEllenThe desk overall is great. Easy to assemble with the exception of one design feature. The hinges provided to attach the « lid » to the front of the desk which conceals electronic wires, are a nightmare! They are supposed to click together. I tried for over an hour unsuccessfully to get one of the two hinges to click, getting bruised from trying and finally gave up. Definitely a problem!

Damaged ProductAnonymous reviewerThe desk came quick. One of the front drawers was damaged and it looked like the factory tried to paint over it. I don’t drive, this is why I ordered the product. They are making me wait a week to ship the product back. When they receive it, they will then send me a new one. This is such an inconvenient process. All because they sold me a damaged product from the factory.

Excuse me The pop pop at the back of the desk for computer cords will be my safe little Haven, for my cooled irons and chords will slip through the port for electrical cords, normally used for a computer ❤️

Better than expectedEuniceI was looking for a smaller desk for my room and found this IKEA model that fitted my need. The desk is large enough to hold my laptop, mouse and paperwork on the surface and has 2 nice size drawers for pens, paper and other stationary,
Good quality with a wood like top and metal legs. Just the right height for me ( using a folding chair). The desk is sturdy with the metal legs (and weighs more than I expected). Would purchase again if I needed a second desk of this size.

Extremely Nice Design, But Material Quality is PoorMarkI love the look of this desk, but as another reviewer commented, the veneer/foil applied to the chipboard is of inferior quality. Within a week, the veneer/foil started showing signs of severe wear after my son's glass of juice fused to the surface due to condensation/sticky residue from a glass left on the surface. The damage is very noticeable since you're looking at a white underlayer when the foil chips away. I think it's perfectly fair to expect a desk surface to resist this sort of durability test. I expected IKEA to apply a durable transparent lamination layer to the foil to prevent this sort of damage, but this does not appear to be the case. I have bought loads of furniture from IKEA over the years and have always been very satisfied, but this desk's lack of quality has been a sour experience. I now hope to hear from a representative from IKEA about how I can proceed with a return.

What is particleboard?
Particleboard is made from recycled wood and sawmill leftovers – so wood pieces with the wrong shade, woodchips and sawdust become a resource instead of possibly being discarded. We use boards for things like bookcases, bed frames, sofas and kitchen frames. To protect from wear and moisture, we apply varnish, veneer or foil that adds to the furniture's look.
