Starter rooms let you quickly explore design ideas without scanning or building your own space. Choose a pre-styled room for inspiration, or start with a blank layout and try out different furniture arrangements to see what works.
IKEA Kreativ offers over 50 starter rooms in three styles:
  • Unfurnished — a blank 3D room you design from scratch.
  • Semi-furnished — a 2D room with a fixed background of existing furniture; you can add your own 3D furniture on top.
  • Fully furnished — the same 2D background as semi-furnished rooms, but with 3D furniture already placed for you.
Available room types include bedrooms, living rooms, offices, and dining rooms. Most rooms are approximately 15 feet wide. Room availability may vary by country.
 

To open a starter room, on the web:

Unfurnished rooms:
  1. Go to the Kreativ dashboard.
  2. Scroll down to the Empty rooms section.
  3. Select one of the pre-built 3D rooms to open it and start designing.
 
Semi-furnished or fully furnished rooms:
  1. Go to the Kreativ dashboard.
  2. Scroll down to the Furnished rooms section.
  3. Toggle Fully furnished or Semi-furnished using the icons on the right.
  4. Select one of the rooms to open it and start designing.
 

To open a starter room, in the IKEA app:

  1. Tap your profile icon in the bottom navigation.
  2. Scroll down and tap Your designs.
  3. Select Create new.
  4. Browse 3D, semi-furnished, and fully furnished rooms. Tap one to open it and start designing.
 
Additionally, if you're looking to design your kitchen or bathroom, IKEA offers specific planners tailored for those spaces. You can access all planners by navigating to Design & Planning.
