It seems to me that it is because the background of the clock is in dark grey in colour and the time is black in colour. if the background is white in colour, then the effect will be better.1

Doesn't WorkJitendraI have bought two clocks back to back from Ikea, one was this one and the other was an analog with the bell on the top, neither worked. The Klockis, will turn on, but when you attempt to change the time, all the characters will light up e.g. 00:00:000 and beep. Wont let you change a thing, I wish I could have uploaded a video of it. The bell clock, well that one won't even move its seconds hand so just won't turn on. Make sure you keep your receipt.1

LOUD GregThis alarm is fine, except that it makes a loud beep every time you turn it to change modes. The noise makes it undesirable as a bedside alarm since it’ll wake your partner just by changing modes. If you could disable this beep, then I’d give it a much higher rating. 2

Multiple useful functionsPaulineTo change between the functions available you just have to rotate the KLOCKIS so that the function icon that you want to use is at the top over the display. The display is large, clear and easy to read. It is very easy to use the clock/alarm/timer functions. Neutral colour of unit suits any decor. Unit makes a beep and the screen changes colour when unit is rotated. Screen colour returns to neutral colour at rest.5
