Pretty bad hinges in a moderately good cupboardAnonymousI didn't want to have to get the platsa range but it was the only one that fit in the space. The hinges were painful to install, the doors STILL do not sit straight or correctly (they lack the range of adjustments the nicer hinges seem to have). I regret buying the platsa - it needs nicer hinges and not the awful metal shelves. I expect IKEA will quietly retire this range unless it gets a major overhaul.2
A nightmare - that never ended.JulieI set up a Platsa wardrobe and chest of drawers for my Mum last year. It was a breeze. Recently, I’ve just finished assembling one for myself. There were lots of doors and associated hinges in my design. The HJALPA hinges are awful. They simply don’t want to screw into the frames or sit flat against the frame. I had 18 to deal with and several simply weren’t useable. Platsa is a great system and the frames are very quick and easy to assemble, however I STRONGLY RECOMMEND that you stick with sliding doors and drawers if you want to escape with your sanity and temper intact.1
Cumbersome and inflexibleAnonymous reviewerAs per previous reviews - nightmare to install even though I hired an IKEA badged tradesperson. Also, it seems unwise to create a product with built in INFLEXIBILITY. Why not have flexible fittings for shelf placement which can change as needs change. Very disappointing.1
Have a second peron is handyMelissaThese hinges function very well but were a bit problematic to install. Attaching them to the door was easy but attaching them to the cabinet - not so much. They refused to sit flat and allow the screws to go fully through, even after inserting the screws on their own first to ensure the pre-drilled holes were long and wide enough. In the end I had to hold each hinge flush against the cabinet (with quite a bit of pressure) while my husband applied his greater strength to getting the screws all the way in.3
Screws into frame are a nightmareTaniaI bought 4 hinges with my Platsa system and every hinge had a problem with one of the screws that goes into the platsa frame/box. They get stuck half way. (The screws into the door and the others which adjust the position seem to be fine). I returned the hinges to the Ikea store and 3 workers had the same problem. I then received new hinges (from a different batch) and they had the same problem. Finally another worker at Ikea managed to get the screws in and gave me some advice of how to get the hinges in place..... Remove the main part from the small, back panel. This small, back panel has the 2 screws that go into the Platsa frame/box - not the door screws. Before adding this panel to the frame make sure the screws can be screwed in completely. Attach the small back panel in place first, then the add the main part of the hinge and finally the door. Finally got the hinges in place - but it was nightmare. A look at the design of these screws is needed by Ikea. I would gladly pay more to get a product which was easier to install. I have to admit I am not feeling confident about the quality of these hinges for the long term.1
OK but...RowenaThese door hinges do what they need to, but are not as adjustable as they should be. Still getting some clearance issues with drawers/doors above and below & the frames are squared and level. The screws also get stuck in3

The storage that changes with you

Our living space is often limited, and it can be a challenge to find a place for everything. With PLATSA storage system, we wanted to create a simple, changeable storage solution that you can rebuild and add to, build vertically or horizontally, to the side or in between. On top of everything else, the price should be low but the quality should be high. The solution: the right quality in the right place.

"All you need is your hands," says product developer Freddy Kramer while clicking together one PLATSA frame after another. Yes, clicking. The secret is a type of plug called a wedge dowel. Freddy goes on to explain why assembling or taking frames apart easily is an important detail. "People's lives are changing more and more today ─ we move more often, live in smaller spaces and maybe share a home with others at times. That's why our needs don't look the same throughout life."

Take apart and rebuild

Freddy shows how the frames can be arranged vertically, horizontally or like steps, to then be completed with shelves, wire baskets, clothes rail, drawers and doors. "Even the exterior can be used. You can place hooks there or a clothes rail which is fixed between two frames."

Love in a white box

For PLATSA to be truly long-lasting, quality was just as important as flexibility and ease of assembling. But improving quality without adding to the price is not easy. "Right quality in the right place," Freddy says, and opens a cabinet door. "Here on the outside of the door, which you see and touch every day, we've used a matt foil with fine texture, while the inside, which is not as exposed, is coated with a simpler base foil." The PLATSA project took a lot of time and commitment. But it also gave results. "Those empty white boxes for the frames might not look like much at first glance, but they’re actually white boxes filled with love,” Freddy says, smiling.

What is steel?

Steel has unique characteristics when it is stretched and shaped since it remains strong. It provides strength to everything from skyscrapers and cars to bed frames and outdoor furniture. The steel industry is moving in the direction of more energy-efficient production and stronger steel qualities. It doesn’t lose any of its properties when recycled and today steel is one of the most recycled materials in the world.
