Very functionalKenI have purchased many of the Billy variations and they all have very simple assembly.
Difficult to add to existing bookshelfPamelaThe instructions show a hole on either side of the top of the Billy bookshelf, as inserts for special screws. These did not exist on my Billy bookshelf, so I ended up securing the extender with two angle brackets (requiring drilling). I shouldn't have to do this. Instructions should clearly say "Your 107cm high Billy bookshelf will not have these pre-drilled holes, so ignore this section of the instructions". I think Ikea could do better, considering the number of these units they sell.

Inadequate assembly informationMichellePurchased these extensions in order to install floor to ceiling bookcases. Bookcases plus extension are 237cm and ceiling height is 240cm, and there is no mention of a minimum ceiling height on the IKEA website or instruction manual. Ikea assembly people are unable to install because it requires an extra 10cm in order to get the extention onto the top of the bookcase and then attach to the wall from the top. Extremely disappointed and frustrated that this was not mentioned anywhere, because I've had the cornices removed from the ceiling in order to install these bookcases flush against the wall and now have a 38cm gap between the bookcases and the ceiling and need to reinstall the cornices.
