IKEA announces a plant-based evolution of the IKEA Hot dog

The IKEA hot dog has been an appreciated last destination for IKEA shoppers on an empty stomach for more than 40 years. Now, customers have even more reason to celebrate as IKEA introduces the plant-based hot dog.
Available in IKEA Swedish restaurants across Australia in early 2024, the plant-based hot dog is the latest addition to the IKEA family of plant-based products.
Offering great taste and texture, the plant-based hot dog contains rice protein, onion, apple, salt, pepper, with added smokiness to offer a classic sausage flavour.
The plant-based hot dog will be on sale at an affordable price to inspire more customers to choose plant-based options, limiting the impact on the environment.
Helene von Reis, Food Manager at IKEA of Sweden says: “IKEA is driven by a vision to create a better everyday life for people across the globe. Through the food business, we can contribute to this by offering tastier, healthier, and more sustainable food options.
“We want to provide more plant-based alternatives that will have less of an impact on the environment, compared to animal-based options but still provide our customers with the same taste they know and love.
“The plant-based hot dog was developed to mimic the texture and sensory experience of biting into the classic IKEA meat-based hot dog.
“With a great taste, texture, and a snap when you bite it, the plant-based hot dog is a great alternative to the traditional iconic hot dog at IKEA.”
The plant-based hot dog will be available at IKEA stores across Australia in early 2024.
