An IKEA Kids Range From Another Galaxy Has Just Landed

The new AFTONSPARV kids collection was create with junior space enthusiasts, inspired by their knowledge and curiousity about space.

28 September 2023: The new AFTONSPARV kids collection based around space and featuring products which support creativity, imagination and role play for junior space explorers, hits IKEA stores in Australia and online this October.

The ideas behind the new AFTONSPARV collection were developed through workshops run by IKEA with a group of young space enthusiasts, between the ages of 3 and 7, based on the belief that children are the experts in what they like and need. This space-themed range offers lots of room for creativity and play, much like the exciting and vast mystical world of the outer space.

“We were surprised by how much knowledge the children had about our solar system and the outer space”, says Marta Krupińska, designer at IKEA of Sweden, “But, since science hasn’t discovered everything there is to know about the universe, there’s also lots of room for fantasy and own thoughts. There’s no limit to where play can take you.”

With this in mind, AFTONSPARV has been designed to incorporate all types of children’s play and activities.

“At IKEA, we believe that children are the most important people in the world and home is a great playground” says Maria Thörn, Range Area Manager for Children’s IKEA, IKEA of Sweden. “We believe children have the right to play because it’s the best way for them to learn, develop and grow. I hope that the AFTONSPARV collection can fuel children’s creativity and inspire them to pursue their curiosity about outer space.”

The collection features everything to kick start an adventure into outer space, including a solar system bed tent for kids to drift off to sleep under the stars. AFTONSPARV also features soft-toy astronauts and aliens, finger puppets (from $10), duvets and pillow covers (from $29) – all made from 100% recycled polyester – as well as a cardboard rocket play tent ($40), planet and rocket lamps (from $35) and a glowin-the-dark curtain ($40).

The AFTONSPARV kids collection will be available in stores and online across Australia from 1 October 2023.
