IKEA to sell a complete home solar offer

19 February 2020 - IKEA Australia has announced it plans to roll out its home solar offering, SOLSTRÅLE, in April starting with co-workers in a nation-wide trial. Prior to launch, employees will now be able to test and try the exclusive offering, complete buying process and provide feedback to ensure consumers will receive a quality experience when it is launched nationally.
The new offer will sit as part of the global IKEA People and Planet Positive Strategy which drives innovation, steers investments and unleashes new business opportunities to transform the way we do business. The SOLSTRÅLE offering will aim to inspire and enable customers to significantly reduce their carbon emissions and go all-in to tackle climate change and promote sustainable consumption, alongside IKEA.
Jan Gardberg, IKEA Australia Country Retail Manager and Chief Sustainability Officer said, ”IKEA will work hand in hand with Australians to be climate positive. We know our customers care about the climate crisis so we will enable and inspire action by bringing home solar to the people of Australia. We will invite Australians to join us on the journey of making positive change for our planet, starting at home.” IKEA has been investing in renewable energy in its operations for over a decade, and now has more than 900,000 solar panels globally, and close to 20,000 on stores and units accross the Australian business.
In 2019, Ingka announced it had invested €2.5 billion ($4 billion) in solar and wind energy systems over the last decade to power its global operations. IKEA has been working alongside their carefully selected partner, Solargain, to develop a tailored offer for Australian consumers. IKEA Australia will join the seven Ingka markets who currently offer home solar to consumers and will be the first to launch for IKEA outside of Europe.
Jan Gardberg said the move to solar is ideal for the conditions in Australia. “We know the unlocked potential that awaits with democratising sustainable solutions through renewable energy. Our climate is perfectly suited for Australia to be a leading market for the IKEA home solar offering.” “As a business we see it as our responsibility to enable positive change in society. We are living on one planet which is counting on everyone to make a difference,” he said.
More information on the SOLSTRÅLE offer is available here.
SOLSTRÅLE will be a complete, turnkey solar system that is inclusive of all components, services and guarantees. This will include a custom design for the roof, full installation, solar panels, inverters and mounting systems. There is an option to add energy storage solution/battery to the purchase. Pricing will depend on local conditions (such as government incentives and rebates) and the size of system purchased. As part of the quote customers will receive a yield estimate which will break down a daily production and will take into account the specific system design.
