How to make an incredibly multifunctional living room
Are you looking to get more out of your living room than just relaxing? We met up with IKEA Richmond customers Jose and Ulises to help them organise a room that shares roles as an office and entertainment space too.
Inspiration starts here

Meet Jose and Ulises. To them, the most frustrating thing about their living room is that they use it for so many things that they end up spilling into each other. Their request was to have everything nice and tidy, and at the same time keep their character.
We looked to create activity zones that could change and adapt for different situations. As the centrepiece of the room, we went with this HOLMSUND sofa because it can be adapted depending on how you’d like to use the living room and there’s a big storage section inside to help free up more space in the rest of the living room.
Using this FJÄLLBO TV bench means there’s lots of room to keep movies together and these BESTÅ boxes mean that even the biggest collections can be organised by director, genre or whatever takes your fancy (it also helps that they perfectly fit DVD’s).
Moving over to the office zone, we put together a designated desk and work area for Jose with a divider to keep it separate from the rest of the room. For Ulises who prefers to paint wherever inspiration finds him, we used the RÅSKOG trolley which rolls to wherever it’s most useful and both stores a lot of art supplies and is a handy height to work from.

“We used to say that our living room was kind of a war zone, and now, happily, it’s a peaceful zone.”
