Thoughtful tips to finding that just-right sleep temperature

Our bodies like to sit between 15 to 19°C, and 18 to 21°C for children – that’s a small window! Everybody is different, but to have an ideal sleep, you need to first find that not-too-hot, not-too-cold, but just-right temperature. And we can help you do it.*

    Use temperature to wind down

    There’s a reason a long, hot bath makes us feel ready for bed. A drop in body temperature naturally helps send you to sleep, so going from a warm bathroom to a cooler bedroom and then resting as your core temperature drops back down to normal can help if you have trouble drifting off.

      Choose the right mattress

      Don’t forget to think about your just-right sleep temperature when choosing your mattress. Spring mattresses circulates air well, and can prevent you from feeling too hot during the night. But if you struggle to stay warm at night, opt instead for a mattress material that maintains heat, such as foam.

        Get some air

        Unsurprisingly, ventilation plays a key role in the temperature of our bedrooms. To keep yours toasty, block out draughts with heavyweight curtains and maybe consider getting double-glazing if possible. If you do need to have the heating on throughout the night, try to keep it low in the bedroom, as central heating can make a room feel stuffy. In warmer months, open the window and keep a fan by your bed when necessary.

          Sharing space with someone?

          Not everybody will have the same ‘just-right’ temperature, and that’s okay! Try keeping a few extra cosy blankets on hand throughout the night in case someone needs extra layers. Better yet, in the day, layered textiles is an easy way to style and refresh your bedroom.
