An unforgettable DIY wedding: dining decor
We asked our interior designer Emma to help our thinking-about-getting-married colleague couple, Brunella and Lukas, with planning tips and party ideas. Check out how she turned their broad themes of romance, nature, cinema and space-y sci-fi into stunning dining decorations.
Set an inviting table. Emma chose white as the base for the tabletop, chairs and plates to make the nature around and on the table really pop. Lacy curtains worked as inexpensive, dreamy tablecloths. For the centrepiece, she used mirrors to reflect the blue sky and twinkling stars and added sprigs of green leaves and clear pots of alien-looking plants. Painted moon rocks told guests where to sit and doubled as DIY wedding favours from the forest.
Add dramatic elements. Decorations above the table double the impact! Emma draped lighting chains overhead and went for big focal points by hanging up her simple DIY creations. They look like chandeliers (or dainty UFOs) but were SOLIG nets that she just tied and clipped. Golden stars were strung up, too. To emphasise the couple’s seats, Emma even made an abstract blue planet from fabric attached to a hula hoop.
Make guests feel special. It was extremely important to our couple not to differentiate between guests, so Emma added identical extra touches to every chair. She cut the leftover fabric from the chandeliers into strips and tied them onto the backs. Some guests needed a little special treatment with soft cushions. Brunella and Lukas wanted assigned seating and chose long, large tables so guests could swap seats.

Dedicate cake space. Lukas wanted a towering cake with marzipan, and Brunella wanted something spectacular! Emma embraced their enthusiasm and created a table just for the cakes. She matched the rest of the decor by using the same table, dinnerware and lacy curtain tablecloth. She even hung coffee mugs on the tree, which freed up table space, too. Marzipan stars carried the space theme, and cake sparklers brought cinematic flair!
