Useless ScrewsMichaelThe small tiny screws that attach the shelves to the slider and brackets are useless - the threaded holes in the enameled slider covers and second shelf brackets are not machined out properly so when attempting to attach the shelves the force required to secure the shelves strips the screw heads before the shelves are completely attached - either properly make the threaded holes the correct size (i.e. protect the home from being covered in the white enamel) of change the screw type - with a point/self tapping to enter the hole and use a Robertson head or an Allen Key/Hex head for the screw.3
Please don’t bother HeatherThis product is a hot mess. The screws don’t fit properly into the holes. Some of them could be inserted for full turn, leaving the joining loose and unstable. Some screws can’t even be inserted for a quarter turn. Managed to get the bottom tray kind of put together, but even then the tray is shaky and bowed. The design doesn’t make sense, since it just seems take up more space to store the same number of shoes you could fit on a regular pull out tray. True waste of money.1
GarbageScottNone of the screw holes were properly tapped. The screws fit in, at best, a quarter turn leaving the enitre product a loose mess. Ikea has a significant quality problem manufacturing this product. DO NOT BUY.1
Mesh drawers beats shoe shelf for storageRenaeI first bought the pull out shoe shelf, but later swapped it for the mesh drawer. Actually, I fit two (2) mesh drawers in the same space as the pull out shoe shelf. The mesh drawer makes much better use of the space, and I can fit more pairs of shoes in just one mesh drawer than I ever could on the shoe shelf. It also keeps everything hidden and looks neater as part of the PAX closet, in my opinion.3
Love it SarahIt looks professional, stuck and he loves having all his shoes displayed nicely and easy to reach.4
Worst ikea thing yetJames1. Most screw holes aren’t tapped. If the screws were stronger, maybe they could cut through the steel. I had to drill out many of the holes and use my own nuts and bolts. 2. The screws are so soft, basically useless. More than half of them either stripped on the head or the threads. 3. Missing two crucial steps in the instructions. (1. Mount them as far back as possible so the doors will close. 2. Finish mounting the shelf by putting two screws into the slides to hold the shelf. ) 4. Once assembled, it barely slide because there’s too much tension. The shelf is the wrong width by a mm or two. Be prepared to drill the holes in the steel out and install nuts/bolts instead. 1
Recall neededAnonymous reviewerThe screws don't fit the holes and when you do manage to get them in, the finished product is loose and cheap feeling. Ikea please fix this. 1
Impossible to put together CatherineThe steps in the installation guide are not the difficult parts about putting this together. The hardware, especially the small screws, are impossible to put together… I would not recommend this product, even doing your best to put them together, it will be shaky.1
Should be RecalledColbyI read the other reviews about this and thought - they must not be handy. I was wrong. There is a manufacturing defect with this line. The screws do NOT fit in the holes drilled for them. Metal on metal does not leave much room for error. I managed to find a work around by using a more narrow screw, but they stick out and make the shelf wiggle. The product works fine with my workaround, but I am disappointed IKEA continues selling a product with a design flaw that everyone has complained about.1
KOMPLEMENT SHOE RACKStephenI HAD A REALLY HARD TIME UNDERSTANDING THE INSTALL STEPS. I THINK THE GRAPHICS ARE POOR.1

Difficult to screw JoanNice product but really difficult to screw 2
Self tapping screws useless for upper shoe shelfAnonymous reviewerI agree with the other review for a re-design the shoe rack. The top shelf self tapping screws were useless on the metal clips for the upper shelf. I had to use my own machine screw and nut.1
Unit was recommended by anKevinUnit was recommended by an Ikea specialist for a PAX wardrobe with doors. However, door hinges interfered with the pull out shoe tray. Seems that only the wire mesh basket would work at the very bottom of the wardrobe. Quality/ease of assembly wasn't as good as other items from Ikea1
screw size does not match the holeMandaWorse Ikea piece we've bought. 1. Not great design, waste space of the 58cm-deep closet. 2. The holes on the board are smaller than the bolt. Totally disaster.2
The folding of the shelvesStephanieThe folding of the shelves isnt straight. Its a little anoying. Opened several box. They are all just as bad.3

Because one size doesn't fit all

Have a little look around — not too obviously, just a peek. Chances are, even if it's just different colored socks or another color of scarf, there's no one dressing exactly the same as you right now.

Which is why it stands to reason that our clothes storage shouldn't be exactly the same either. It's this idea that led us to develop the PAX/KOMPLEMENT clothes and shoes storage. Designed so that no matter what your passion, fashion or personality, your clothes and accessories will have a practical home.

The evolution of storage

It just takes a look through a photo album to see that some of the clothes we used to love might make us wonder 'what was I thinking?' today. And as the way we dress has changed over the years, so too has our approach to making storage at IKEA. That's why we've designed PAX/KOMPLEMENT clothes and shoes storage to adapt to how you would like to store your things, rather than trying to fit your clothes and accessories into an unsuitable space. An idea that's shaped its whole development.

The only similarity is difference

“Most people dream of having an organized wardrobe where they can see all their clothes and accessories. But that's where the similarities end", says Betina Tviis Larsson who developed the PAX/KOMPLEMENT system. Traditional storage often shoehorns you into doing things a set way, whether its folding t-shirts or sorting out a sock drawer – something Betina wanted PAX/KOMPLEMENT to step away from. "We didn't want to say there's a right way or wrong way to organize your clothes. If you want to hang your jeans by their belt loops we want you to be able to do it”, Betina says.

Multiple personality order

To get the design process off on the right foot, the design team focused on what kinds of storage do different people need. "We started by speaking to a lot different people in the team and around IKEA to try and determine different personalities and different needs", Betina explains. And what we ending up with was this a big inventory of preferences and types of things that needed to be stored". By designing around personalities, the team started to develop types of storage that would fit collectors and families just as easily as minimalists and people with very little space. "The whole idea that defined the project became, don't change your personality, change your wardrobe instead", Betina says.

Fitting in function

Bringing this research together, the result is a series of interior organizers that can be adapted for particular uses, from multi-purpose drawers and hangers, to specific features for everything from shoes, to pants, to jewelry. The idea is that each organizer can be mixed or repeated as you choose, so if you want to store your whole sneaker collection inside, or have everything hanging, you can. "I really like to use space in a good way", Betina says. "With this system you can tailor your one wardrobe frame into hundreds of combinations." So whether you're a 'super organizer' or a 'piler' type of clothes person we hope you'll be able to match your storage to suit your style.

Material

What is steel?

Steel has unique characteristics when it is stretched and shaped since it remains strong. It provides strength to everything from skyscrapers and cars to bed frames and outdoor furniture. The steel industry is moving in the direction of more energy-efficient production and stronger steel qualities. It doesn’t lose any of its properties when recycled and today steel is one of the most recycled materials in the world.

Designer thoughts

Designer thoughts

"What was difficult but also fun about designing KOMPLEMENT series was the challenge of finding a common look and style for many different functions. We wanted the design to work for elegant glass drawers as well as trouser hangers and shoe shelves. Everything should look beautiful together, no matter which interior organizers you choose. The idea behind KOMPLEMENT is to make it easier for you to find your favorite clothes and accessories. That’s why the interior organizers have a neutral style, with soft friendly shapes that show what’s inside."
