Exploding glassesMakalaIt's true. These glasses will randomly explode of their own volition. I've had two break just from sitting on the counter and suddenly the bottom shatters and theres water and glass dust everywhere. At first I thought I was losing control of my telekenetic powers and projecting angry thoughts onto the glass triggering a powerful physical reaction. But I guess it was just poor quality control from Ikea. Got them from the Tampa store in July 2025.1

Spontaneously breakJacobThese glasses look really cute however over the course of a few months we have lost three of them to spontaneous breakage. One was in the dishwasher and broke during a wash cycle the other two have broken while sitting on a countertop or in the sink, presumably because of leftover sugars from juice or something? Would not recommend especially if you have kids.1

Shattered Spontaneously EmilyWe've had these less than a year and several of them have spontaneously shattered either in the sink or dishwasher! Luckily no one was harmed. I wouldn't get these, or any of the other colors! 1

Fab glasses, cheap glassEdithLoved these, enjoy the green ones, but lost one to the difference between hot rinse water in a sink and fridge cold water from a pitcher! Family member picked it up from dish rack, placed on counter, poured in water from fridge and bottom popped off. No extreme heat, just sink v fridge. Caution!4
Glasses exploded RachelI never write reviews but I feel the need to warn even more people about this. Three out of the new set of glasses exploded, one literally in my hand that went everywhere around where my kid walks around and the others all around where my kids dishes were in the sink. This is extremely scary because anyone could be drinking out of these and they could explode. I am throwing the other one away because I am too afraid to keep it. IKEA, I hope you are investigating this because this is scary and a lawsuit waiting to happen!1
Cup randomly explodedGerryWe just got these cups a little over a week ago and one of them has already randomly exploded while sitting on the counter with nothing in it. Very dangerous. 1
Exploding cupsAdrianaI feel like I have a ticking time bomb with these cups at my house. They have exploded spontaneously one by one. The first time I wasn’t home and didn’t know when it happened but the other two were when I was home and the sound is scary. Imagine that happening again while I am drinking from it, horrible. I have 3 cups left and don’t know if I can return them or should just throw them away for safety purposes.1
More exploding glasses??ShaneekaI came here to write a review, that two of my glasses spontaneously exploded and was surprised to find other reviews saying the same thing. One exploded while sitting there, dirty, waiting to be cleaned (hand washed that time) the second after I unloaded it from the dishwasher. So Cute and Tiny DonnaThese glasses are adorable. They are the perfect size for juice with breakfast or a small iced coffee. They are well made and good quality. You cannot beat the value of these, as they are not at all expensive. 5
Good for kidsThomasThese fit the grip of a child well and have just about the right amount of juice, milk, or whatever. I suppose they are good for serving orange juice to adults, too. They would be small for much of anything else.5

Glasses spontaneously EXPLODEDAlisonWe initially loved these glasses and used them all the time. 2 didn't just shatter. They EXPLODED. One exploded in a glass of hot coffee, which we figured was due to the temp, which made some sense. Then another exploded just after being hand washed in warm water. Then the third showed signs of cracking around the lip. Really dangerous. Do not recommend. Would maybe recommend a recall and some further product development.1

These glasses are great. They are big and thick. I don’t need to be afraid of breaking them while washing them. They are also inexpensive! No regrets!

Story

Designing for the tastes of people around the world

Do you sometimes cook dishes from other cultures? Then you’re part of an international trend called transculturalism. It basically means that global cooking and eating habits are a lot more similar than you may think. How can we cater for this trend? We designed the VARDAGEN series with products that can be used in multiple ways. In Swedish, VARDAGEN means “every day”, which is just how the products are meant to be used, no matter where you live.

“Consumers have access to cultural diversity in cooking and eating from all over the world,” explains Ina Tidbeck Sjöblom, who helped create the products. “They want to taste the best of all cultures, which means that it’s not only in Asia that we need eating products for sushi.”

Creating products for all our differences (and similarities)

The VARDAGEN products are designed to turn differences into similarities. Like the eggcup. “We did it in a shape that it’s more like a very small dip bowl,” explains Ina. “So it’s also for Asian eating, you know the bowl where you put chili paste and other condiments.” Another bowl has just the right size and shape to be a rice bowl in Asia, but it can also be used as a side-salad or cereal bowl.

Answering the global demand for durability

VARDAGEN is uniquely suited to the global market—catering to the different needs of eaters. One thing people all over the world seem to agree on is the importance of durability. “We know from all the studies and research we do that people don’t want to buy and throw away things, they want to buy something that lasts,” says Ina. That’s why VARDAGEN is made from durable and sustainable materials, like glass, porcelain and stainless steel. That means, just like the name VARDAGEN suggests, they’ll be useful every day for many days to come.
