Strong chemical odorJessicaIt looks just fine, but the fibers have a strong petrochemical odor that has not gone away after several months. It irritates my sinuses and eyes which can't be good. The directions suggest vacuuming may help off-gassing but jute fibers are brittle and loose so this just makes it worse. Real jute is made of cotton through a natural and traditional process. Some cheap/inauthentic producers treat it with oils that emit formaldehyde, but real jute should not be like this. This is priced below premium options but still not extra cheap, so what am I paying IKEA for if they have such loose quality control? It's as if I bought from some random stall in Mumbai, no idea what quality you will get. I don't even want to trade it in. I used to think IKEA is budget friendly but still cares about design and quality. But if the product you're selling isn't even usable, you're just costing me money and causing a literal headache. I have no idea how it has affected my health or how to dispose of it.2
1/4 Inch… BUT!SethThe dimension of the rug is 1/4 of inch thick but the hem is significantly thicker keeping me from opening and closing my door without bunching up the rug. This should be noted in the dimensions. Also, this wool rug is notably rougher than other wool. 3
comfy AlexThis was my second choice rug. The one I really wanted was a seasonal special and out of stock forever😞. It does take a lot of smoothing out and has to relax and be smoothed again. I used it with the recommended under rug mat and it says in place well. It's very soft and cozy with bare feet. I've only had it for a month, so can't comment on long-time use.4
Horrible smell!KatherineTried to post a review earlier but now I see that it never went up - this is the worst smelling rug I have ever purchased and I have many wool rugs - it smells like we’re at a farm even after days of airing out - makes me wonder what the wool was treated with if it smells this bad! 1
Horrible smell!KatherineI have never purchased a wool rug that smells so badly! Makes me worried about the quality / what the wool was treated with - airing it out now but really disappointed with the smell.1
Great rugLilianaI bought this rug for a spare bedroom, to place under the bed. I like the softness of it, especially upon getting in and out of bed. Nice looking rug as well.5
Needs to come with a backingDavidI have had this run in a bedroom for 2 weeks now and a number of things are apparent.
1- This rug takes a long time to lay flat after having been rolled up from the factory. This leads to all kinds of problems.
2- Even with the Ikea felt backing it does not play well with vacuums. My robot vac has regularly rolled up the edges of the rug. Without that backing it also is prone to wander (slide).
As has been mentioned by others, I think it is not likely to age well. There are already small areas where the weaving is coming loose and sticking out from the rest of the rug.3
Not recommendedTaraThis looked wonderful in the showroom, but after just five months in a bedroom it is extremely pilled and has even begun to tear in a way I'm not sure I understand is possible. It also doesn't lay well over a rug pad. Even at $189, I'd expect it last a couple of years. Five months is not acceptable.1
Beautiful, but... MelissaThis rug is soft, the woven texture is beautiful to look at, and the weight is wonderful. However, it lays on the ground more like a heavy duty throw. I purchased the large size and it bunches easily in places where there is not furniture sitting on top. It has been two months with this product and it also pills despite treating it very well. I do think I'll be returning, sadly. 3
