Not durableGargiThis was extremely difficult to assemble compared to other ilea furniture I’ve put together. The dresser broke within 2 months and the drawers can’t hold any weight. Its flimsy and not well made.1
RAST DresserSamannthaGot this dresser for my new and or FIRST apartment, while building it within the first steps of setting up I can’t even screw the screws into the wood, I have built ikea furniture before and have NEVER had this issue when building something and or especially something made from wood. If anyone has some tips or tricks please help! Or is it even worth continuing to build and I should just return it. 1
Pieces broke, drawers never workedVeronicaHad this for about a year, wanted a small dresser for my closet. On assembly pieces broke off and snapped, the wood was coming apart as I tried to put screws in. After it’s assembled you realize the divets for the tracks in the drawers aren’t deep enough in the wood so 2/3 drawers never worked, never slid in and out properly. They’d fall out sideways and would get stuck. TERRIBLE dresser!1
Broke During AssemblySophiaLike many others here, the screws splintered the wood midway through assembly. I’ve built several houses worth of IKEA furniture so this was not user error.1
Simple. Functional.JerryI genuinely hope Ikea never discontinues this type of furniture. What it lacks in colors, design, flash, and finish; it makes up for in FUNCTION, CRAFTSMANSHIP, and SIMPLICITY. The pieces are cut very precisely so that they come together seamlessly. The wood is finely sanded so as to prevent splinters. The hardware all is chosen to give the most functionality out of such a simple drawer! The only "problem" people may have with it is if they spill something on it the wood will stain, unless they decide to paint it!5
Terrible qualityDanielleDrawers don't glide smooth. Never over filled and still broke from just opening and closing often.1
Solid pieceLeandraI need everyone to understand that if you’re looking for a large dresser than this is not the right thing for you. But what it is, is a great solid wood piece that provides extra storage that makes a perfect night stand.5
Broke so fast, bad quality StellaOne month of use already broke the cabinet.1
a classicEjsturdy, easy to build, with unique dimensions hard to find elsewhere. i often need this shallow dimension for in-closet dressers. I've specced the Rast in a number of rooms i've designed. And the price is always right! Yes, it's raw pine -- so if you're using it as a bedside table you should stain / paint it. I like to think of a Rast as an ingredient in my room recipes -- it can be any color I want it to! Like an Ivar, etc, the Rast is here to serve your vision. The two in my own closet are not stained, still raw pine after years, as im not setting any wet glasses on them. The shallow drawers are perfect for opening within the closet footprint. I use them to store underwear, bras, socks, exercise clothes, pajamas, little tee shirts, etc. I also just specced one as a bedside table in a friend's guestroom (in which case we painted it yellow). Long live the Rast and its unique dimensions.5
Easy to build but quality is poor.BonnieI bought this because it was solid wood instead of particle board and the price was pretty decent. Unfortunately, several pieces cracked and split when I was screwing everything in. They've also cheaped out and use plastic railing instead of metal. Difficult to pull the drawers out. If I had a choice, I'd spend the money on the Hemnes line instead of this.3
Something changed with this design…KimberlyWe have an older Rast shelve and use it as a side table. The design has changed from 2 knobs on the drawer fronts to only 1.
Bummed that now our “matching set” doesn’t match but the functionality of the shelves isnt lacking. It’s small, lightweight, and basic. Perfect for any space and easily customized.4
Not terrible but not greatJoseThe finished product isn’t terrible, but it’s not great either. The assembly, however, is terrible. The final assembly component used to secure the drawers is made of plastic, which gets damaged almost immediately when using a standard screwdriver. You have to apply a lot of force for the screw to go in; otherwise, it just spins and won’t tighten.
Because of this, I couldn’t get the last drawer installed at all, and the others are stripped to the point where I’m not confident they could be removed later if needed. If this part were made of a harder plastic or metal, I would rate this a 3. Be aware that this piece may break, and no extra hardware is provided for that specific part.2
alignment issuesSuchitaGetting the pieces aligned perfectly was difficult, causing some of the pieces to break or be unable to tighten effectively.3
The RAST set of drawers I will ever buy here.BrandenBeing actual wood, you would have thought this would have been good value...sadly not. Just seems like IKEA isn't what it used to be. Should have just bought something better...or cheaper from a thrift shop and refinished it. If there is one purchase that has ended my interest in buying furniture at IKEA, this was it. : (2
Worst build experience. Do not buy.AdrienneWe bought two of these for some closet organization and both times the build has been unnecessarily difficult and time consuming. I have built dozens of IKEA pieces including the Fjallbo sideboard and that wasn’t even this bad. Holes not drilled deep enough, boards splitting, etc. We live 100 miles away from the closest IKEA so returning it is entirely inconvenient but we feel this was a GIANT waste of money. Of all the IKEA products we’ve bought over the years this is easily the worst.2
AffordableTylerGreat affordable chests if you want some real wood furniture in your life without breaking the bank5
Oh my, oh my.JoslynnThe first week I had this dresser before I could build the second one. The wood split on the top. There wasn’t anything on the top, not even a lamp. The next day I hear a crash. The whole drawer fell out. Like slid out of its resting place and crashed to the floor hit my hardwood floor and broke like Bruce Lee punched it. The worst I’ve ever purchased from and the other set drawers I purchased are just as bad. Don’t buy this product.1
Good for the price pointHannahYou need an electric screwdriver to build this one. I had to go out and buy one; I couldn't assemble it without it because the holes one one side of the chest were not pre-drilled (the other side was fine). After I got over that hurdle, the chest assembled pretty quickly. I substituted darker drawer pulls to contrast with the light wood. The one disappointment was the plastic screws on the drawer assembly. I don't expect those plastic clasps to last long. While I don't need this chest to last forever, I would like to get three or four years of use out of it.3
GreatMichelleUse this for little kids dresser and works perfect5
Not easy to build, original design was betterRobertStep one of this set of drawers has you lining up drawer slides onto pieces of wood without any kind of guides or pre drilled holes. I tried watching a YouTube video to help- and found that they redesigned this. The original design had drawer slides that press right in.1
