Great for babiesKatieOur baby has started to try crawling. This mat is great for that! Nice and squishy, so he doesn’t get hurt if he plops down. Plus, it’s easy to fold up and put away for the night.5
thin outer materialShannonThe padding in this is actually pretty solid and nice, but the outer material is much thinner than expected - closer to a shower curtain than the heavy duty material on the tumbling mats I remember in elementary school. It seems like it might tear easily or detach from the stitching, and I would definitely not let cats or dogs with sharp claws on it. It's inexpensive enough that I'll keep it and see if it holds up, but it's not quite what I thought it would be.3
great matLiliSo glad that I bought two! One for me and the other for my 6yo son. We both love this gym mat. I have been looking forever for a good gym mat for indoor exercises. Most mats are either too soft or too hard, not good for doing sit-ups. This one is in perfect size and great for doing sit-ups, plus it is foldable so I can hide in under the sofa or in the corner. And it is easy to clean too. Great gym mat. super recommended 👍5
Happy with Older Version...Nervous to Buy Again After Change in ColorsRachelWe bought our beautiful blue/green/gray mat (they no longer have this color) in early 2023 for our toddler to provide cushion if she fell off the couch. It has held up well to frequent use and our dog's sharp nails. It's much softer than some adult gum/workout mats we purchased to provide cushion around their beds (that are on the floor) and to protect the wall. I've been wanting to buy another one of these Ikea mats because they are soft enough to sleep on (my daughter used to prefer to nap on it). So, I would plan to use it for travel as a napping area for our toddlers. I'm just hoping the plushness of the mat hasn't changed since 2023 along with the revision of the colors. It's pricier than most other Ikea items (yet, normal cost when comparing other gym/tumble mats) and returning sometimes isn't a practical option if these don't work. Ultimately, I can only speak for the 2023 version which we LOVE! Please bring back those beautifulll colors again!!!5

The Avid Tumbler...Love this floor matChristopherWhat a great way to ensure the safety of our little one. As they tumble and roll throughout the home. This mat is super cool and stores well in a folded position under the bed or next to our ikea storage cabinets.5
Good for the priceHeatherReally happy with this so far. Plan to order several more. 5
Bring back the old colors!NicoleI bought the original green one for my daughter many years ago and she still uses it for at home gymnastics practice. I was looking forward to purchasing the pink and blue version for my middle and youngest for this Christmas but they were replaced with newer colors. The original pink and blue version was much cuter. Please bring the old colors back!!! I’m so bummed!5
Gym mat.MaryA great mat for children to tumble on. I wish it was about 6-10” wider so it would fit better under a climbing toy for my grandchild.4
Great quality.KellyKids love it.5
Surface is scratched up and seams look wornShuPretty scratched up right out of the bag. Not sure if it's used or if that's just poor quality control on IKEA's part. If that bothers you, I'd open it and check before leaving the store. Foam is a good height and provides sufficient cushioning for me though.2
Great for kidsHenrikGood buy. Nice quality. Fun for tumbling. Great bedding for kids sleep overs.5
Fun NanaElizabethPlufsig playmat is great, grandkids love it! Happy with the purchase, would recommend.5
Pink soft foldable matSherriMy two-year-old granddaughter loves this mat. She tumble on it. She plays on it and she even rolls her self in it to hide her self. It’s so easy to clean, wipe it down and then fold each part on top of each other and put it away.5

Pep for more movement

At Children’s IKEA, we want to inspire to an active everyday – with more room for jumping, running, fun and games. Because the fact is, studies show that physical activity both plays a big role in children’s well-being and is an investment in the future.

Maria Ekblom, Associate Professor at Swedish School of Sports and Health Sciences, researches how physical activity affects children. “We know for sure that the right amount of movement has a positive effect on children’s physical condition, muscle strength, cardiovascular health as well as blood pressure and blood sugar.”

The whole body likes to move

“Studies have shown that movement enhances the mental well-being and is positive for certain cognitive functions. Furthermore, the amount of physical activity we get as children also affects our habits and health later in life. So, what is the right amount of movement? The UN’s World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that children between ages 5 and 17 should do at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity each day. In addition, a couple of times a week, it’s good to do more high-intensity training that increases the heart rate for a longer period of time.

Find the pulse in the everyday life

Maria has tips on how to find the time and energy for regular exercise in everyday life. “If it’s possible, walking or riding a bike to and from school is a great opportunity for everyday exercise. Just like meeting friends and playing outside in a safe environment.” Younger children often have a natural appetite for physical activity, but they might need some encouragement to get going when they get older, says Maria. “I think it’s important to give children the opportunity to do sports or other activities that are age-appropriate and match their interests. Then, if they really like what they’re doing, it’s easier to make it a good habit that lasts.”

Function solution

Moving develops the entire body

Children around the world love to jump and do somersaults, completely unaware that they are training their motor skills at the same time. Going through an obstacle course, playing with a ball or even crawling through a narrow tunnel helps develop the child's sensory system, especially their coordination and balance. Moving is important for both children and adults so that we feel good – for our entire lives.
