Almost 20 yearsBrianI bought this bed 19 years ago, when I first moved out at 19. I am a big guy 6'4 and around 245lbs. This bed has been assembled and disassembled countless times. Seen three apartments, sat in storage for a year and finally ended up in the spare bedroom of my first home. Thought the year it has been abused and its still perfect. Actually hard to believe I've had it this long. I just picked up a new bed at ikea and thought of how well the Malm had been to me. Thats why I decided to write this review now. Its served me well and still doesnt make noise and looks good. Im actually giving the bed frame to my nephew. Highly recommend this bed.5
Its okayJaclynAssembly was tiring for one person. It makes quite a bit of noise. Every shift and movement makes noise. Not great but not horrible. Looks nice.3
Cute but so loudKaitlynit was put together correctly, I bought the $50 slats, and it is the loudest, creakiest bed ever. it looks nice and clean but I do not think im going to keep it.2
SadCesarI just bought one and realized that the central metal piece is missing.😱😳😩1

10 years with bed and still going strongBriaI've had this bed for 10 years and I've disassembled and reassembled in 3 different apartments. It does what it needs to do and it has room under the bed for additional storage5
MALMRobertVery happy with this item5
Exactly what we were looking forTracySimple, chic, clean. Just don’t forget the additional pieces needed like the bed slats!5
Slats fall frequently ShelbyThe slats fall frequently and have to be adjusted at least monthly1

Very bad bedEnkhmandakhThis bed is very noisy. It makes a noise every time I move. I can't sleep because of this noise. I would never recommend this bed to anyone.1

Beautiful bedJeniferBeautiful bed. Hard to assemble but worth the effort once done.5
Creaky, no bed slats includedEvanInsanely huge hassle to assemble a bed and then realize bed slats are not included so you can’t actually put your mattress on it yet. Slept on the couch for two days waiting for slats to arrive. Thanks Ikea2
Pretty but painfulNoraI have had my Malm bed for years. It is minimalist and looks fine. Assembly was tricky, but with perseverance it is solid with no creaking. However, I would not choose this again. There is a learning curve as you get used to the new dimensions of the bed: we would hit our shins on the very sharp corners. This problem was solved by buying little foam corner bumpers that match the color. Also, swiveling from laying to sitting at the edge of the bed, the backs of your calves can scratch against the frame. It is particleboard with a veneer, so the wood can be soft and prone to dings and scratches, although this can be repaired with wood fill or markers. Why I wouldn’t recommend it because it is painful to make the bed/change sheets. You must slide your hand between the mattress and frame (ouch to back of hand) to lift the mattress up to be able to tuck sheets in. Mine is a king bed and it’s too heavy to do this. The partially recessed design looks pretty but functionally it is awful.3
Exceedingly difficult to assembleJohnOver the years, I have bought many pieces of furniture from Ikea, including beds. I’ve assembled them too. This is the first experience that has me reconsidering the value of the “put it together yourself” model.2
Does not include important piece!!!AlexDoes not include the beams. It will fall through and break the other support beams. Have to purchase additional materials. Absolutely waste of money, time, everything! Do not purchase! 1
Immediate Regret after Assembly ChattrayaI’ve been buying IKEA products for years and have always been satisfied, but this bed frame has been one of the most disappointing purchases I’ve ever made. It was expensive, and it absolutely does not perform to its price. It took hours to assemble because the instructions were terrible and confusing. I had to rely on a YouTube video just to figure it out.
Even after carefully following every step and tightening all the screws, the bed constantly creaks and the slats keep shifting out of place. It’s incredibly frustrating, and the noise drives me insane.
I desperately wish I could return this item and get my money back. Unfortunately, it was already such a struggle to put together that the thought of taking it apart again feels exhausting. This has been a complete waste of time, energy, and money. I expected much better quality from IKEA, and I’m extremely disappointed and more than that just upset and sad.1
