MalmMargaretBed is practical and nice looking5
Beautiful bedJeniferBeautiful bed. Hard to assemble but worth the effort once done.5
Creaky, no bed slats includedEvanInsanely huge hassle to assemble a bed and then realize bed slats are not included so you can’t actually put your mattress on it yet. Slept on the couch for two days waiting for slats to arrive. Thanks Ikea2
Pretty but painfulNoraI have had my Malm bed for years. It is minimalist and looks fine. Assembly was tricky, but with perseverance it is solid with no creaking. However, I would not choose this again. There is a learning curve as you get used to the new dimensions of the bed: we would hit our shins on the very sharp corners. This problem was solved by buying little foam corner bumpers that match the color. Also, swiveling from laying to sitting at the edge of the bed, the backs of your calves can scratch against the frame. It is particleboard with a veneer, so the wood can be soft and prone to dings and scratches, although this can be repaired with wood fill or markers. Why I wouldn’t recommend it because it is painful to make the bed/change sheets. You must slide your hand between the mattress and frame (ouch to back of hand) to lift the mattress up to be able to tuck sheets in. Mine is a king bed and it’s too heavy to do this. The partially recessed design looks pretty but functionally it is awful.3
Exceedingly difficult to assembleJohnOver the years, I have bought many pieces of furniture from Ikea, including beds. I’ve assembled them too. This is the first experience that has me reconsidering the value of the “put it together yourself” model.2
Does not include important piece!!!AlexDoes not include the beams. It will fall through and break the other support beams. Have to purchase additional materials. Absolutely waste of money, time, everything! Do not purchase! 1
Immediate Regret after Assembly ChattrayaI’ve been buying IKEA products for years and have always been satisfied, but this bed frame has been one of the most disappointing purchases I’ve ever made. It was expensive, and it absolutely does not perform to its price. It took hours to assemble because the instructions were terrible and confusing. I had to rely on a YouTube video just to figure it out. Even after carefully following every step and tightening all the screws, the bed constantly creaks and the slats keep shifting out of place. It’s incredibly frustrating, and the noise drives me insane. I desperately wish I could return this item and get my money back. Unfortunately, it was already such a struggle to put together that the thought of taking it apart again feels exhausting. This has been a complete waste of time, energy, and money. I expected much better quality from IKEA, and I’m extremely disappointed and more than that just upset and sad.1
The cheapest crap material everAlexThis is by far the worst bed I've ever bought from anywhere. The middle support beam broke in about 7-8 months (mind you my wife and I are not fat cows). Bought a new center beam. The center support beam hanger rips off from the foot board. Got my own bolts, drilled holes all the way through only to have it rip out the same way from the head board. The slats started coming apart on month 4. Constantly shifting and falling through the sides and center. I'm soo sick of this cheap cheap material that I just honestly never want to buy from IKEA again.1
Most squeaky bed everAdamDo not buy. This is the most loud and annoying bed you can buy. Save your money1
DONT BUY IT!!!!IsabelIt’s not worth your money! Since the first day it’s was really noisy!!!! DONT SPEND YOUR MONEY BUYING THIS BED!!! It should be discontinued! Poor quality! 1
Perfect BedEmauelAll, I read the negative reviews about the ikea beds. There is nothing wrong with them. I have found out through experience that you have to add a little more support than what comes with the bed. I went to Home Depot and had them cut 4x4s 7 inches high. I use them as additional support pieces. I have never has a problem.5
Why wouldn’t IKEA make the base a required QJackLike many others apparently, we ordered this bed thinking we had everything covered and realized after spending 2 hours building that it doesn’t automatically come with a base/box spring/slats of some kind. Why that’s not just a required question, considering the bed is unusable and entirely unsafe without a base, I’m not sure??3
No support for mattress LiaoMattress falls through at every corner. The only support are four flimsy bars with the thickness of your pinkie.1
Poor supportLiaoVery few underlying support. Need to buy bed slat for this to work, or else the mattress keeps falling through the corners2
Easy and looks niceMichaelNice sturdy bed. Easy to assemble even with a 13 year old daughter insisting on doing everything the hardest way possible. 5
shaking my headNicolethe bed honestly wasn’t that hard to put together, but they should’ve said i needed to buy the support beam separately . now i have a bed but no support beam so where and how tf am i supposed to sleep at night without messing up the bed1
Noisy! Do not buy!JustinSqueaky with any movement, absolutely horrible and disruptive when trying to sleep. So disappointed! Just Google "malm squeaky bed frame" and look at all of the problems with this model. 1
Broke, replaced part and broke againAnonymous reviewerI purchased this for my son’s room. He tripped and fell onto the bed and the main support beam bent. I purchased a replacement and about a year later the screws that were holding the beam loosened and the beam fell . I really wanted this to work and love the look of it, but after two major issues I am done. Do not recommend. 1
Do not buy!!!!! ChloeJust like all the other bad reviews, our support beam broke/ screws gave in the middle of sleeping!! It just completely fell through and we ended up collapsed on the floor. So lucky our pet who sleeps under the bed was NOT underneath. This 10000% should never happen.1
Weird ashAnastasiaBuilding seems simple, but the screws and the screw locks and stuff are really weird. Plus they need to better disclose that you need to buy the center support beam separately, the metal bars that it comes with are so flimsy and bend. If you can, get a different bed.1
