does not black out completelyKatieFor the most part, these blinds are good. Changing the size is a little tricky, but if you are handy at all (and you have a hacksaw and pliers) you'll be fine. Reducing the width of the shade requires careful measuring, cutting, and then sawing off part of the aluminum tube.
My main gripe is that these don't actually black out the window - because the mounting hardware holds the shade slightly away from the window, it leaves a small gap all the way around the window for light to come through. And it doesn't seem to matter if you mount it in the window or over the window.
However, installing and using the shades is very easy. I love the slow roll up when opening them - you just pull it a bit and it slowly rolls up about 90%. Taking the shade off/out and putting it back is very easy - a pull tab on the right side.4
Does not rollAmyHow do these roll up/ down?
They just drop and don’t roll up. No tension.
We hung brackets from ceiling. Instructions say you can mount to ceiling.1
DisappointingMaryThis roller shade did not work. Once installed, it would pull down just fine, but it would not go up. It was too difficult to try to "balance" the roller mechanism. I also purchased a larger version, and ended up returning both of them. However, I did choose a pleated black out shade, Hornvallmo, which is working great. : )2
Blocked outTerri LI bought these for my bathrooms. They lay almost against the wall. The rolling adjustment works well . I haven’t figured out how to set the adjustment to only go up so high every time though . Install was relatively easy. The first install had to be redone - I didn’t allow about 1/8 inch ( width) clearance to mount the shade onto the bracket. The instructions are confusing as to spacing - either way the extra holes are hidden by the shade . I am happy with the shades , light is filtered out and privacy 100% . I mounted them on the outside of the window .5
Works perfectlyPeterA bit tight at first but gets looser over time. I’m impressed by how well it returns to its highest position.5
Black out works!DebraWe bought this because of outdoor lights around our RV making it difficult to sleep. Completely blocked the ligh!5
Met my high Ikea expectationsTimothyPriced well relative to the quality. Easy to install (though instructions without words made me visit YouTube for clarity), and functions as presented on the site video.5
Never thought I would love a pull shade like thisElizaThese are the best shades. The ones I put up two years ago work just as well as the ones I put up today. Two windows left, don't discontinue these before I get around to it PLEASE they're a great price and so easy to install. The instructions for trimming don't make sense, but luckily I haven't had to trim them. I guess they kind of bow in the middle, but I have them all installed inside the window frame, with curtains on the sides, so you can't see the edges of the shades at all. I wouldn't have even known if I didn't go look for the purposes of the review.5
Short + CurlsViOthers were right. My windows are 47.5 inches width and these cover it with 0.5 inches gapping on the sides. These are curls really badly. With the gapping and the curling in the sides, you can definitely see into my apartment with these.2
Great product!RiguelExcellent black out curtains, easy to install and maintain!5

Great black out blindsAnne-SophieWe’ver purchased these black out blinds in our last two homes in white. They are a great solution for rentals and quick solution for blacking out your bedroom to sleep. It also works great against blocking out the sun so the house doesn’t hear up. We love them for their simplicity and quick install, the install guide is included and a measuring cardboard as well. So easy. 5
Improper sizes!KarinaI measured my windows and the holder is the correct width posted online. However, the rolling blind paper is smaller, for there is about a 1-1.5 inch gap on both sides! The gap on both sides are very awkward and barely covers the window. The blinds also does not retract back all the way up when you pull and release. I now have to go back to the store to return and repurchase a bigger size. Go one size up!2
High quality window blindStephenThis blind was easy to install and very effectively blocks light. It is attractive too. It needs to be manually lowered and raised. I expect that it will be very durable.4
Terrible chemical smellJaneAfter couple of days they started having a strong chemical smell, it’s horrible - I can’t even sleep, I had to take them down. I want to return them, I unfortunately can’t find the receipt. Will I be able to still return them with showing them my credit card transaction of this purchase? 1
Terrible chemical smellJaneIt was okay for couple of first nights, then it started having a terrible chemical smell. I unfortunately can’t find my receipt. But I see the purchase on my credit card. Would I be able to return them with showing the purchase on my card? 1
Nice BlindsJarodWe have replacement windows with shallow sills, so our options were limited to mini blinds or roller blinds. These installed easily and look great. They roll up slowly, which is better than I expected.5
Check the fabric width, it is NOT 48 inches wideSabaMy window is 47.5, I bought this as it was listed as 48. When I opened it to install, the fabric can't cover the sides of the window and lets light in, which makes it blackout feature useless.
Additionally the installation instructions are very awful, and it doesn't come with screws.1
Started having a strong chemical smellJenniferHopefully we can return an open packaged item. Initially I liked it, it looked nice and was easy to use. It actually blocked out light. But it started having a crazy chemical smell after a few months that you can smell from the door! We had it removed because I don’t want my toddler inhaling that. 1
Flimsy TonyWeak and flimsy. Not strong at all. 2
