What does a kitchen planning consultation look like at IKEA?

This guide explains the chronological steps of your in-store kitchen planning journey, from initial ideas to the final plan.

  1. Before booking: To get the most out of your meeting, we recommend that you prepare first. Get inspired by exploring our online kitchen styles and, most importantly, measure your kitchen space. Accurate measurements are the first critical step to a successful plan. We support you to make this process easier through our process Kitchen Measuring Video Instructions. Alternatively, you can also use our printed kitchen measuring guide to use as a reference while taking measurements. You should also consider your needs, listing your kitchen dreams and any current challenges, to discuss with the expert.
  2. Book your appointment: When you're ready, you can book your meeting online via IKEA Kitchen Planner Service page.
  3. Receive confirmation of your meeting: You will receive a confirmation of your selected meeting by email with additional instructions on how to prepare for your planning. The instructions will differ depending on where and when the planning will take place.
  4. Rescheduling or Cancellation: We understand that plans can change. If you need to reschedule or cancel, please try to do so at least 24 hours in advance by using the reschedule or cancel button in the confirmation email. If you can't find this button in the email, you can reschedule or cancel the appointment by to contact us. If you prefer, you can also change your in-store booking to a virtual online session by informing the expert who will contact you before the meeting.
  5. Preparing for your planning: Please bring your kitchen measurements, any ideas or inspiring images you have collected, and your list of dreams and challenges in the kitchen. If you've already started a design in the IKEA kitchen planner, have your plan number or access details ready so we can access them quickly and easily.
  6. During its planning: An IKEA kitchen expert will:
a. Review your measures and discuss your needs to ensure that the plan is functional.
b. Work with you to create or refine your kitchen design using the IKEA Kitchen Planner.
c. Help you choose products, including appliances and custom countertops, that suit your style and budget.
Please note that we will not advise on structural changes to your space, such as removing walls or changing plumbing, gas and electrical connections. We recommend discussing these changes with an expert.
  1. The result of your planning: At the end of your session, you will receive a complete plan package. This includes a 3D design of your new kitchen, a complete list of products, a quote for the kitchen, and a quote for our delivery and installation service. Your plan will be saved to your IKEA account, so you can access it at any time. When you're ready, we can also help you place the order right away, but we'll also be happy to give you some time to reflect on your purchase and schedule a follow-up meeting to place the order later.
