How can I measure my kitchen?

When planning a kitchen, every millimeter counts. We offer written and video guides to make it quick and easy to take kitchen measurements on your own. If you can't take the measurements yourself, we can support you with our kitchen measurement service.

  1. Preparations before you start measuring your kitchen
To get accurate results, your kitchen space should be in its final state before measuring. This is what we call "ready to measure".
  • Complete all major work required: Ensure that all major construction work is completed. This includes removing or constructing walls and applying plasterboard to all walls and ceilings.

  • Finalize Utility Positions: Your plumbing, gas, and electricity connections should be in the final positions they will occupy in your new kitchen.
  • Gather your tools: You'll need a laser tape or meter, a pencil, paper, or a notebook to record your findings. If you prefer to record measurements digitally and have suitable equipment available, use these instead.
  1. Measure your kitchen measurements
If you're not familiar with taking measurements in the kitchen, we recommend starting by looking at our kitchen measuring video instructions. Provides step-by-step instructions with helpful tips and tricks. You can pause the video as you go to measure at your own pace. Alternatively, you can also use our printed kitchen measuring guide to use as a reference while taking measurements.
Be sure to document everything while measuring your kitchen. As it measures, it records the following specifications. This is the same detailed list that our professional technicians use.
  • Room dimensions: Measures the width, wall length, and ceiling height. On each wall, mark the exact locations and dimensions of the connections for electricity, water, gas and air vents. Also, measure and mark the location of any obstacles, such as radiators, pole supports, columns, or chimneys.
  • Windows: For each window, measure its dimensions, the distance from the floor to the base of the window, and the dimensions of the window frame. Remember to measure the space needed to fully open each window.
  • Doors: For each door, measure its dimensions, the distance from the floor to the base of the door, the thickness of the door, and the dimensions of the frame. Measures the space required to fully open each door.
  • Electric: For each outlet, measure its distance from the nearest floor and side walls. Note the type of electrical connection (single-phase or three-phase), the amperage, and the number of appliances you plan to connect. Measure and document the location of light switches.
  • Ventilation: Measure the diameter of the vent, its distance from the floor (to the bottom of the opening) and the distance from the nearest sidewall (to the beginning of the opening).
  • Water connections: Measure the distance to your water sources from the side walls. Measure the distance to the water drain, both from the floor and the wall. Please note if there are additional water connections (e.g. to a dishwasher).
  • Gas Connections: Measure the distance between the floor and the nearest side wall to the gas connection. Also, measure the diameter of the gas pipe and its distance from the floor and side wall.
  • Obstacles in the ceiling: Document the position and dimensions of any obstacles, including sloped ceilings.
