How does the IKEA kitchen installation service work?

Installing a new kitchen is an exciting step. To ensure that everything runs as smoothly as possible, it's helpful to understand the process from start to finish. This 6-step guide outlines each phase, clarifying what our team does and what you need to prepare for a successful installation.

  1. Before you book – Set yourself up for success
Proper preparation is the key to a seamless installation. Before booking the service with your IKEA kitchen expert, you should consider the following:
    • Measure and plan:
A successful installation starts with precise design. We always recommend that you take measurements of your kitchen to save time and costs. If you are not familiar with this process, we suggest you watch our videos first. Instructions on how to measure kitchens.
When the measurements are ready, we recommend making an appointment Planning session with one of our experts, to create the design of your ideal kitchen and discuss the installation service in more detail.
    • Prepare the space:
The space should be ready for installers well in advance, so we recommend that you plan all construction work in advance. This includes the completion of all structural, construction and basic work before the installation start date, namely on walls, windows, doors, ceilings and floors.
You must also ensure that all technical connections (electricity, plumbing, gas) are in the correct end positions.
If you have an old kitchen and have not opted for the additional Kitchen Removal service (not included in the kitchen installation service), the old kitchen must have already been removed. If you prefer that the remove to be done on another day, an additional fee for team travel is applied.
Note that the Kitchen Removal service does not include stone countertops or appliances, which must be turned off before the team arrives.
    • Obtain licenses:
The customer is responsible for obtaining all planning and construction permits or permits applicable to their project.
    • Consider additional services:

However, we recommend that you keep 48 days between the delivery of the kitchen products and the start of the installation, so that you have time to check that all the items have been delivered correctly and solve any faults.
    • Reschedule or cancel:
If your plans change, you can reschedule or cancel the installation. To avoid additional costs, you should contact the IKEA Customer Service at least 48 hours before the start date of the installation.
If the cancellation is made less than 48 hours in advance, or if you are not present on site when the installer arrives, a fee may be charged to cover the cost of travel.
