Choosing sustainable materials
We are continuing our journey towards sourcing renewable or recycled materials. We aim to use only renewable or recycled materials and to provide new solutions for our customers to prolong the life of products and materials.

The many qualities of wood
Wood is an excellent material from a design, quality, and environmental perspective. And it’s an important part of our Scandinavian design heritage.
Strong, recyclable metal
Our metal is built to last. It’s strong, durable, and affordable. It’s recyclable and sourced from suppliers who follow environmental and ethical standards, helping reduce its overall impact.
Only recycled or renewable-based plastic in IKEA products by 2030
We have phased out all single-use plastic from the home furnishing range and are eliminating plastic from our product packaging. Our goal is to only use plastic from renewable or recycled sources, which reduces waste and gives the product several lives through use and reuse.
Committed to better cotton
All cotton used in IKEA products is from more sustainable sources. This means it’s recycled, or grown with less water and pesticides. Good for the farmers, good for the planet, and good for you.
The many benefits of bamboo
As a material, bamboo is both strong and sustainable. And it’s versatile too. This is why we’re using more of it to create beautiful, durable IKEA products.
Wool – good for you and the planet
We’re on our way to only using wool that comes from sheep that are treated well, and land that is managed responsibly.
Rattan- A natural beauty
Rattan is a natural material known for strength and flexibility, making it perfect for weaving into lasting furniture. Before it’s woven into furniture, it goes through a careful preparation process that helps it hold its shape. Then skilled artisans hand-weave every detail. The result? Distinctive pieces full of texture and rustic charm.
