UppFora - now what I expectedElizabethI've bought from IKEA before and the units were always self contained in that I had the trusty allen key and was able to assemble my furniture. I did not realize that this modular unit needed me to have a drill, clamps and it was much more than a straight forward assembly. And the sales person who helped me with my order never said anything to indicate that this was going to be more work and I would need additional tools. My wardrobe is half assembled still... while I am getting some help to complete. It was very disappointing that I couldn't just assemble as use it, like I have in the past with all the other purchases that I made.
Engineering failureSinaI purchased the Uppfora frame 60x55x196 cm for my newborn’s nursery, but I’m very disappointed with the quality. The sides are flimsy and can’t even support their own weight—there’s almost a half-inch bow in the middle of the frame. I spent a lot of time and effort trying to figure out why it wouldn’t stand straight or feel sturdy. One of the drawers also kept coming off its rail. Adding the shelves helped a little, but not enough. As others have said, this wardrobe really needs extra hardware to be stable. IKEA should automatically refund anyone who has these issues and cover repair costs.
Misrepresentation ChristineI purchased the Uppfora in store yesterday with the help of an ikea worker. Turns out, they sold me the smaller version of this even though I was clear about the armoire I wanted. I called customer service and they said because the dimensions match what is listed on the website there is nothing they can do. They also refuse to pick this item up because I live outside their "pick up zone". So im left with a toddlers closet. Be weary when purchasing this item, two different sizes but have the same name.
This frame fundamentally did not do its job. HilaryI had to buy sheets of plywood and glue and screw them into the back of this frame or else it didn’t hold its shape, it was bowed in the middle (I bought two units and they both did it). It’s completely unsurprising it did this since the backboard it’s completely flimsy so the strength is entirely in the sides, but then it’s so tall, so none of the drawers or shelves fit with the bowing. I spent $63 at the hardware store for plywood, finishing screws and washers, in addition to wood glue and screws I already had and mercifully was able to fix it but the design was incredibly disappointing, not what I’ve come to expect from IKEAs engineering generally and completely different from the PAX wardrobes I’ve used before.
