I will be returning this bench as clearly the holes are not lined up and I cannot get all 12 bolts in. I tried switching sides, switching bolts, my husband tried. Conclusion…a piece of garbage.

Impractical and stinkyAnonymousAfter about a year with this piece, I would not recommend it. Having to lift off the whole lid to access the storage, rather than having a hinged lid, is a pain, especially if you access the storage regularly. In addition, my bench still has a strong chemical smell, even after standing out in a ventilated area for a year. I don’t have a particularly sensitive nose, and the smell still lingers in the entry area and transfers to fabric items stored in/on the bench. It’s cute and inexpensive, but I’ll be replacing mine with something else.

Simi Gauba and Kristin Pfannenschmidt are two of our product developers who are based in Vietnam and work a lot with natural fibres. “When we created TOLKNING, we got help from skilled artisans who know the strengths and weaknesses of the material,” says Simi. “Without them, we wouldn’t be able to offer these products to our customers.”

What is rattan?
Rattan is a climbing plant belonging to the palm tree family. It grows as a vine on tree trunks, its fast-growing tendrils easily reaching 60, and sometimes more than 300, feet long. They can be harvested without harming the host trees and grow back quickly once harvested. We use this lightweight, flexible and durable material in products like armchairs, rocking chairs, side tables, outdoor furniture and for handmade baskets.
