Great Changing Table, but Complicated AssemblyMaria PiaI’m happy with the finished product—it’s functional, sturdy, and works well for our space. However, the assembly process was much more complicated and time-consuming than I expected from an IKEA product.
The changing table comes in several boxes, and the SMÅSTAD unit and KONSTRUERA drawers have separate instruction manuals. The instructions were not always straightforward, and putting everything together took considerably more time than expected.
Important note about the KONSTRUERA drawers: Many people online have reported that the drawers do not fit properly. If you have the KONSTRUERA 30x60 drawer, make sure you follow the instructions for assembling the large drawer on page 10 of the instruction manual. Do not follow the instructions on page 1 for this drawer. Following the wrong instructions can result in a drawer that doesn’t fit correctly.
Overall, I like the changing table and am happy with how it works in our space, but the assembly experience could definitely be improved.

2/5 starsYousefThe SMÅSTAD changing table looks nice after assembly, but putting it together was a frustrating experience. The instructions were not clear enough for the drawer section, and some steps were confusing because the parts look similar. It took much longer than expected, and the bottom drawer was especially difficult to line up properly.
The item also comes in many packages, which made it harder to organize all the pieces before starting. IKEA lists this product as coming in 8 packages, and one customer review on IKEA also mentions that it was “very difficult to build” and that the bottom drawer instructions were unclear.
The final product is useful, but the assembly process needs better instructions and clearer labeling. I would not recommend this item unless you have experience building IKEA furniture or have someone helping you.
Don't recommendAntoniyaVery difficult to build - pay attention to nuances in the parts. Bottom drawer needs to be set to the 2nd option to make it fit which is not clear in the manual. The overhang is very long although online it looks shorter.
