Use an opal light bulb if you have an ordinary lamp shade or lamp and want an even, diffused distribution of light.

Use a clear light bulb if you have a lamp shade or lamp with a perforated or cut-out pattern or other airy, open design and want the pattern to cast effects on the wall and ceiling.

Just what I was looking for!SusanI was looking for a simple floor lamp that doesn’t take up too much space in my condo. This is just perfect! It was so easy to put together and is quite sturdy despite being slimline with a small base. I paired it with the SKOTTORP Lamp shade (13 ") to keep the slim profile.5
Pretty, shiny, worksSamIt’s pretty and shiny and all three that I ordered for locker pickup were in good condition, easy to assemble and obviously compatible with ikea shades. Sometimes gets off kilter if you don’t have the cord fed through its designated notch in the bottom of the base, but easy to fix. Looks great with the black and gold shade. Controlled by a little button right under where the light goes. Easier than the turn ones, more convenient than the old step buttons they used to use if you are hiding this behind furniture. 5

Ordered this with the NymoKellyOrdered this with the Nymo shade online and loved the look. Unfortunately, the Skaftet stand I received was defective and would not function. SO disappointed. Quick chat with customer service and they sent me a replacement at no cost which I was super impressed with (I was expecting a hassle but none at all!). The replacement arrived and although it was apparent it was a return (not pkg'd properly) it functioned as it should. Loved it so much I ordered a second one with no problems. Props to Ikea Customer Service for being quick, efficient and accommodating.4
