Perfect thing for a bedroom without overhead lightingEmilyThis was the perfect solution for me. Just moved into a quite small condo where the bedroom also needs to be my crafting room, and the only light on the switch is a wall outlet. Enter the ridiculous fishing pole lamp from Ikea. Aside from adding a touch of whimsy to my space, it lights it in a way no other floor lamp could. 10/10.
*I should mention, it is shorter than it appears. This works for me, because A) I am also quite short, and B) my floor plan allows it to hang over my bed. Plan to have the light source in a space where you don't intend on standing, and don't plan on putting a really long fixture on it (unless that's what you're into. I dunno, you do you).
**The base is also quite heavy, because it needs to act as a counterweight to the rest of the lamp. It's quite cumbersome to move, all-in-all, and I'd recommend assembling it where you want it to live.5
Affordable ceiling light for eye comfort when reading and writingSophiaThe large lampshade (white RINGSTA) gives a diffuse bright light (E26 100 lumen bulb) that is much better on the eyes than a spot light or a desk lamp. When placed above, avoids shadow problems that come from a floor lamp from behind, and avoids eye glare problems (because lamp itself is in view) when it comes from a floor lamp from in front. Good to know that it can potentially reach a maximum height of 84" (7 feet), as I was able to prop it up to that height with the use of an additional microphone stand -- otherwise it sags down to about 5 and a half feet. I really appreciate this affordable option of a "ceiling light" even if it was at the expense of the ease of assembly (a bit tricky in terms of not wanting to damage the wire, or damaging the screws when assembly whether on the pipes or in the base) and product quality (sags!). Very happy about the use of E26 bulbs to increase affordability.3
Dining room light when you need one.ChrisGreat over dining room table when it's in an awkward place.5
Not the height advertised AmberAfter putting this lamp together and triple checking the screws and connections because I was so flabbergasted at how low this lamp ended up being I will end up trying to secure the pole to the ceiling with a hook in order to even use it.. I took photos and the lamp shade is 3-4 inches above my husband’s head when sitting on our couch (my hubby is only 5’ 7 so not tall and slouches) .. also the screws are way too short and pole is pretty flimsy.2
Fantastic Floor Lamp!TiciaI had looked for many arched lamps and settled on this one based on the price point. I have now had the lamp for over three years and continue to LOVE it. Unlike other reviewers, I measured and knew exactly how tall it would be above my couch! I have it tucked in a corner so that it swags over our couch and it really isn’t a problem. It’s all about how you position it in the room. 5
Nice floor lightAerlineThe arc angle would have been good to know5
Looks Good. Works for Us, But Has Its ProblemsJenniferBefore I purchased this lamp, I read many reviews. The most common comment is how low it hangs. This is completely on point. Additionally, although it's low, the switch is above the shade, which is just a bit high for me (I am 5'2").
We planned to use this over our living room couch, and it's too low for that. Instead, it works well over a table we use for puzzles. Low over a table is perfect. We paired it with a Ringsta shade.
Be aware that the bottom is large and heavy, making it hard to slide under anything. 3
Large bend in metal piece near the bottom ChrisThe lamp we received had a large bend in the second piece from the bottom causing the light to hang 3 ft from the floor. Even when tightened the lamp hang very low to the ground and was unuseable. 1
PerfectJasmineBought this for my apartment that has no ceiling lights, and I was too lazy to make an impromptu pendant light over my dining area. This was easy to put together, and fits nicely in the corner and lights up the area wonderfully, without being in the way.5
Skaftet hangs lower than photos onlineJackieI checked out the lamp in store and knew it was a long arch. It hangs much lower than it looks in the photos online. The black screws that hold it together are not available to replace via Ikea website so makes sure you have them all before you begin assembly. You will have to return the whole lamp if you don't. The base is very heavy. Took two people to assemble. Adding the shade adds weight to the swag. Best for a large room. Place it in a place where no one has to walk under it.3
Just in love with itOlgaJust in love with it5
It is okayMaggieThe instructions were quite simple and it was easy to assemble. The finish is crooked and there's nothing you can do about it.3
Sags over timePatrickPaired with the large Nymo, it looked great at first but began to sag after a few months of use. I’ve used this lamp in my living area above a coffee table with a TV on the other side of the small room. The lamp was originally high enough to see the TV unimpeded with a fair bit of clearance while seated in the couch, but now it’s covering about half the screen. I checked all screw/bolt connections, removed pieces of the lamp shade to shed some weight, and put some heavy books on the base but nothing really helped. I’ve resorted to putting a hook on the ceiling above the lamp and supporting it with some thick thread… rather defeating the purpose of this style of lamp to begin with.
This lamp may work fine with smaller/lighter shades, but definitely not any shade (as stated in the product description). Prospective buyers should bear this in mind before purchasing.2
Horrible quality controlJohnathan- Misaligned base hole causes arch to be offset, which caused lamp to keep wanted to tip over since the balance wasn't proper. That's it, I should stop there since the product is unusable, but there's more.
- Overall arch sections are extremely floppy, causing the lamp to sit far too low and there's no way to adjust it. This could also be caused by the poor quality control, as the pictures in the product look alright.1
It’s greatMonicaWish it was more adjustable, for instance make it go higher or extendable..5
Pretty and affordable arched lampWilliamPretty and affordable arched lamp5
base doesn't fit, lamp shade droops too lowLaurenThe first base plate I got wasn't built properly so I couldn't attach the lamp post to the base. I had to call and Ikea sent a replacement but it had the same problem, I instead got a metal file to make the base plate fit the lamp post. However this didn't really work out well, the lamp post isn't able to screw in all the way so it droops much lower than in the photos.2
Great floor lamp, I loveKathyGreat floor lamp, I love the size and look.
The only thing I don't like is that Ikea doesn't carry big enough shades to match this lamp. I had to buy one from different store.5
Way too low! Stay away!Anonymous reviewerStay away from this poorly designed product. The stem is way too flimsy and light. Because of this the lamp gets weighed down too much! It’s way too low!1
Cool product, butJevounghI am worried it will eventually collapse. Super fragile given it’s shape and material. Putting it together made me think I would break it if I wasn't VERY careful. But it was a good price so, yeah. You get what you pay for. Looks good nonetheless. Bought this with the TORARED lamp shade.4
