IKEA uses certified test labs, which means that all tests are done according to international standards. “All our tables undergo both static and fatigue tests to check strength and durability over time. For example, in one of the tests, you let the table fall from a height of a few centimetres to simulate dropping it when refurnishing or moving.”

We can also simulate different strains the chair is exposed to in different computer programs,” says Magnus and tells that even when we think we sit entirely still on a chair, we actually move and change the load. “In the development work, we need to consider the fact that people sit differently and have different bodies. The relatively thin back on the SANDSBERG chair is developed to give flexibility and comfortable support to all backs – and cope with everyday life in your home.”
