Definitely needs wax or oil treatment! AimeeIf you are using this as a kitchen counter, make sure you give it a high quality wax or oil treatment. DO NOTLISTEN TO IKEA . I’ve been using mine for 5 days and already noticing water damage from wiping it with a damp cloth. IKEA North America needs to share this link with customers from IKEA finland: https://www.ikea.com/fi/en/customer-service/knowledge/articles/f73712f7-93c3-404c-gb9c-86d14221b865.html I was told that it is treated and would need to apply another treatment in 3 years from IKEA kitchen consultation. This is bad advice! And a lie . 2
Not waterproof!!!VictorSorry for the title but I'm not joking, I realized just few days after installing it that this countertop is not waterproof! Many cracks between the strips started to show up just after I cleaned the countertop (kitchen soap and water only) and as the days go by, these cracks became holes in just 30 days! Another problem is the dark wood only, I knew that some combinations could be different but all the 3 pieces I bought have just one or 2 stripes of white wood. The ending strips are a joke, they aren't in the same height and length compared to the countertop and don't glue nicely. If you have to use it, make sure it's not close to an oven because it doesn't resist some heat and will look like an waffle. In a nutshell: I'm returning it for having too many disappointments from a very expensive product.1
This countertop was perfect forJamesThis countertop was perfect for our built in bar and bench. We cut it to fit the bar and the topper for the bench with a table saw. It worked perfectly in our project and looks fantastic. It was a solid piece of lumber and much heavier and sturdier than most Ikea products.5
Perfect deskRowanI needed a long desk to get through my later undergrad years - and this countertop, though probably an unorthodox use, was perfect and has held up flawlessly through the past 3 years of HEAVY daily use. I oiled it a little too much which was my mistake, and I have to sand it off and re-do it. I am getting another for future grad school work :) Really pretty colours - I have no idea why anyone would want to stick laminate pieces on the sides of it, I recommend just leaving it and appreciating as is. The wood sides are beautiful as they are.5
Not for kitchen maybe for a deskConsueloWe bought it to use as a kitchen countertop and it looks so beautiful! Even though we were extremely careful with it from the beginning because it is a porous material so not waterproof, but not even a month after installed it already showed open cracks on one side of the sink and on another section of the kitchen far away from the sink. We just plan to wait until it goes really bad to throw it away and put a regular waterproof countertop. As there is a crack in the dry area of the countertop I am not sure it is safe for a desk but it looks great.2

What is veneer?

A veneer is a thin wooden sheet fixed on things like particleboards to add a durable surface and a natural wood look – so we enjoy the many benefits of wood without using solid wood. The most common veneer types are birch, ash, oak and beech and we’ve made a special UV lacquer that helps preserve the wood's natural structure. A benefit with a slightly thicker veneer is how you can repair and sand the surface if it’s damaged to give furniture a longer and more beautiful life.

We believe that our kitchen countertops should meet your highest demands when it comes to design and performance, without compromise. That’s why we test our countertops, and put them up against the everyday challenges they’ll face in your kitchen: liquids, oil, food, steam, heat, bumps and scratches. When they’ve passed our testing, we know they’ll last, and we guarantee it with our 25 year limited warranty.
