Surprisingly firm.MarkWe purchased the futon and mattress to serve as a couch in a spare room and a bed for our guests. I've slept on it several times now and find that it is firm enough that my back is supported very well and I wake up with no pain. If anything I would have to say that it may be a little bit too firm and I may be purchasing a mattress topper just to make it a bit more comfortable when sleeping. The seat and sleeping height is quite low and may be difficult for mobility challenged individuals to stand up from. In saying all of this, we are very happy with our purchase.
