IVAR ruined by poor labelling descisionStevenOverall, the whole IVAR system is pretty great. It's solid wood, you can finish it the way you want, it's easy to build up into something that will work well in your space. Unfortunately, all the shelving for IVAR is ruined by one very poor labelling decision. Ever piece of shelf I recieved with my order is covered in two or three large labels, glued directly to the bare wood to tell you that it's a shelf and hold a bar code. It's not possible to remove these labels without tearing them and leaving scraps of paper/glue behind. The only way that I've been able to completely get them off (and the glue remaining from where I was able to scrape them off) is to spend several hours with a heavy random orbit sander. If you don't have power tools, you'll be living with the glue/labels forever, and they will interfere with any finish you want to apply to the bare wood.
Very disappointing in an otherwise good product.

OkayJessicaThe system to connect the shelves to the stands is nice and it's not difficult. However, the delivery was awful. There were several boards that were stepped on and one had marks on it. The actual stickers for the delivery were fine but the product stickers were absolutely awful to remove. They were super sticky and unevenly placed on so it never could pull off cleanly. The adhesive stayed on the board too, so now they're going to collect all the dust and feel grimy. Also, one one delivery person was sent, on a hot day, to drive and then bring in the 60 shelves we ordered, so we helped him out as we felt bad.

Latest design flaw! 1 in 5 shelf, the metal bracket detaches from the woodAndyThe most recent design iteration presents a significant flaw. If one needs to detach the shelf from the frame, the bracket may separate from the wood. This is because the bracket is affixed to the wood with several small teeth, which may not be strong enough to resist the force of unsnapping.
It okay if you never have to change positions of the shelves, but that defeats the purpose of buying a modular shelf.
I've been buying IVAR shelves for over 25 years, and this iteration is the worst.

Quality went down, a lotAnonymous reviewer1) The metal bracket system isn't as reliable as the older system. You have to apply more pressure to remove the shelves and are more likely to damage them while doing so.
2) The quality of the wood went down a fair bit, it is essentially framing (construction) quality lumber that's laminated. The picture is a lie. I have old shelves too to compare them with and there is about 10-20 times more knots in the newer stuff, and there is often the pith and other pronounced defects included.
If you seal them and paint them first it might be ok.
Convenient yes, but 4+ stars is a stretch.
BE CAREFUL when repositioningLoriLove the versatility of IVAR but definitely preferred the older shelves that didn't click in. They became more difficult to reposition. Just recently I had to reposition multiple shelves and I had at least 2-3 shelves lose their metal strips. I had to try to fit them back on to the wood so I'm hoping they will still hold up. (Not worth the effort to exchange since new ones will do the same thing). So just a heads up
when removing shelves. Also the pegs are not that easy to remove without damaging/squishing the wood. Again I just want to say I love this shelving unit and over the years we have collected a lot. The older wood has darkened with age. I personally preferred the older shelves that just sat on the pegs. (we're talking a few decades ago LOL)
Used to be a fantastic item - now it's garbage AnonymousThis used to be a great item, and now Ikea is going cheap and 3 of my shelves came broken. IKEA must know what has happened to the quality and people's complains about it - I can only assumed that they're choosing to make terrible products and doesn't care about customers
