Great looking French pressSandraThis is our third purchase as obviously they don’t last forever (not in my house anyway!) but they do the job as intended and look good. Coffee doesn’t stay hot in there for too long but works well enough for hubby and I to take in a flask to work. It is dishwasher safe (although we do remove the bamboo knob from the press before washing). However, a few years ago, we bought a double-wall glass press and absolutely loved it. The coffee stayed nice and hot for a second cup but I accidentally chipped the pour spout and had to dispose of it. I’m sad IKEA seem to have stopped selling this style (IKEA, any plans to bring this style back?), hence purchasing the one I’m currently reviewing. For a coffee press this does the job nicely.
poor designMehmetwe had the double glass version but it broke due to our clumsiness. It was not available anymore so purchased this one instead. This is an inferior product compared to the double glass version at every sense:
1) the glass is incredibly thin so it gets very hot, and feels like it’s about to break at any time
2) need to carry around the cork, or have trivets available everywhere to prevent heat damage on surfaces
3) capacity is not 1L like it claims; it can be 1L when filled to the brim without the press part, but once you is insert it it overflows.
4) the spout does not pour cleanly, it drips all over itself.
5) the lid gets very hot. so you end up with a product that is hot to touch all around, except for the holder. if your fingers accidentally touch the body while pouring, you burn.
please bring back the double glass version, it was so much more functional and useful. yes the lid was plastic, but the capacity was so large that it was easy to avoid plastic touching the drink.
Durable enough, and plastic free!AngusThank you for making a french press without plastic. Yes it is glass and therefore naturally brittle, but after dropping it into the sink, and microwaving the glass basin to warm up water (no kettle yet!), I'm confident it's durable enough!
French press works wellZaraExactly what we needed - for $20.
Material QualityDavoodIt's good, especially the steel retaining, because the cheaper model's retaining was changed to plastic but this model is still on steel.
Pretty good until it broke (3 months)ThomasIt works pretty well.
But I'm just under 3 months it cracked by itself
Coffe , Tea, Herbal makerMirarashThe only issue is thermal isolation (glass is single layer and the lid is getting hot )
We always use ikea press SteveWe love ikea French presses. Preferred the last iteration over this one with cork.
I've scalded myself a few timesDianneThe press doesn't easily slide into the glass. Then the pour spout fits a bit loosely. I really like the look of it but the function is a bit lacking.
I wish I had bought the other coffee press.
